Interesting to read the contrasting views about NZ. We spent a month there in Spring 2007 and then again in 2009, touring both islands each time on self-organised trips, and we simply loved both the country and the people, so much so that we are hoping to return again early next year. In contrast, an hour each way in the Emirates transit lounge in Sydney was more than enough of Australia for us. As ever with travel, each to their own I guess.

Although it still seems a long way off, we're as usual looking forward to heading back to Plakias and Stella's again in September. On the flights front, Jet2 can no longer be considered a budget airline when it comes to the end price you pay, but being able to fly directly to Heraklion from Leeds Bradford just 20 minutes away is brilliant for us after years of having to trek over the Pennines to Manchester.

Hi Ian, I have just booked a charter flight with Thomson for the 16th june £259 each about the best I could find without going to Manchester.  Alex

Just finalized booking my Easyjet flights from from/to Manchester (September). They now fly on Thursdays as well as Tuesdays and Fridays. The Thursday return flights are daylight and very inexpensive so I'm coming back 1 day early on Thursday rather than Friday. I have managed to get a return flight for the two of us (NOT each) - including speedy boarding costs for £274.

Also noted when on their site that Easyjet have started flights from Gatwick to Chania

And don't forget that with easyjet the hand luggage weight limit is as much as you can carry (within the case size limit of a fairly generous 56x45x25) as long as you can lift it on the the overhead rack.

I wondered where she had got to on the last flight - could hear this squeaking from above.
