Where to eat...or not! / Vegetarian Food?
« on: August 26, 2003, 04:08:22 AM »
From other posts, it sounds like there are plenty of good restaurants in Plakias - one week to go now. Still working in Quebec with a very un mediterranean diet - can't wait to get stuck into the Greek Salads and just about everything with olive oil!

Not a problem for me but Karen doesn't eat meat. When we visit Plakias in Sept. we will probably do our usual thing of studying the menu of just about every eating establishment in the town but if anyone can recommend places that are particularly good for veggie food it would be good to know. Last year in Crete we discovered Briam - it would be good to try it again.

PlakChat / Independent vs Tour Operator
« on: August 17, 2003, 05:40:17 PM »
We have always booked through a brochure and often too late to have much choice - We just hate to commit to a holiday too soon. We booked earlier this year as we knew we wanted to go to Plakias. Maybe next year we will try booking independently as, like you Susan, I hate the time spent on the coach. Also, this year, Olympic have really messed us about with the flights ('cos we're going from Stansted I think) It might have been the same if we had booked the flight separately - maybe we'll find out next year. Flights for early September are still available at around £175 and the Kostas studios we're staying at also have spaces so finding somewhere doesn't seem to be a problem.

I am working in Canada until just before our hols - I can't wait to get back home, throw some things in the case and chill out for 2 weeks. Just hope this hotel food doesn't add too many pounds while I'm here.

Looking forward to the meal on 5th

Plakias / Crowded Plakias?
« on: August 04, 2003, 10:29:48 AM »
Two friends of ours are looking to join us for 2nd-16th Sept. I see that cheapestflights.co.uk have flights for £174 but I was wondering whether anyone had a contact no. for Costas Chrysoulla or somewhere nearby. Out of interest, where is the place anyway. I seen the John's map of Plakias but wondered which end Costas Chrysoulla was (far end please).

Where to go / Walks in the Plakias Area

Good to know we can definitely get a copy locally. If past experiences are anything to go by, we (well me anyway) will still manage to get lost. Only 1 month to go.

Where to go / Walks in the Plakias Area

For those who like walking, I saw information on two books that might be of interest. I can't vouch for the info on local availability though.

Info can be found on http://www.marengo.supanet.com/index.htm

'Ten Walks in the Plakias Area' .
Explore the magnificent coastal mountains and beautiful scenery of the area around Plakias, a lovely resort in southern Crete. The book features routes to interesting local villages. In spring this is probably the best resort in Crete for seeing the island's wildflowers.
Large-scale sketch maps of the villages Gianniou, Lefkoyia, Mariou, Myrthios, Plakias and Sellia are included within the text.
Accompanied by a double-sided A2 colour walkers' map of the area, at a scale of 4cm: 1km.
ISBN 1 900802 09 0

'Seven More and More Challenging Walks in the Plakias Area'.With longer and often more mountainous routes for the more experienced and adventurous walker, this book concentrates on the areas east and north of Plakias, including the Agios Ioannis valley. Reach nearby summits for even better views.
ISBN 1 900802 07 4

The books and maps are also available - with an extensive range of other items at very competitive prices - at the seafront Plakias Market supermarket in Plakias, near the Livikon Hotel and bus stop.

Plakias / Crowded Plakias?
« on: July 28, 2003, 11:15:25 AM »
4th/5th have been suggested - both are fine with us. We arrive on 2nd and, as we are new to Plakias, it would be nice to meet towards the beginning of our hols. Is 9pm a bit late if there will be a large group? (the restaurant won't eant to hold a table for too long if they are busy).

Sounds like a great idea. This will be our first time in Plakias (apart from 1/2 day last year) so we'll leave it to others to decide on a venue.

Plakias / September.. Cant Wait!
« on: June 18, 2003, 05:00:34 PM »
We will be there from 2nd Sept, for 2 weeks and looking at the site calender, there will be several others as well. This will be our first holiday based in Plakias (Costas Chrysoulla Studios). Have just come back from a hectic holiday in Peru so looking forward to a mixture of lots of chilling out as well as the exploring the area (great photos John).

Holiday Companies / 2003 offerings
« on: May 13, 2003, 01:56:19 PM »
Just thought I would have a moan about Olympic Holidays. We heard yesterday that our flights have been changed for a third time! The UK departure has got later and the return time has now moved from the evening to the morning. Bit by bit, we've lost 13 daytime hours off our holiday. Maybe, with the state of the holiday / airline market I should be thankful that we've got a flight at all. I see now that this is a disadvantage of booking early so maybe next year we'll take our chances with a late booking.

Plakias / Property
« on: April 27, 2003, 08:15:02 AM »
We are going back to Plakias in September after falling in love with it during a 1 day visit last year. I had also looked on the internet for property but without any luck. The 'plakias.com' site had not been updated. If I see a site worth visiting I'll let you know. Likewise, if you have any info, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks for the info - Glad to say that we've managed to get booked at the Costas Chrysoulla Studios. Can't wait! It will be the first time we've managed 2 weeks in Greece - finally plenty of time to chill out and to explore the area properly.
