Where to go / Preveli Beach

Yes, from the Venetian bridge - we like our walks
The path we took brings you down to the track between the two beaches. The last bit is quite steeply down and ill-defined but no problem as you can see where you are heading. We had a drink in the taverna at the beach to the east of Preveli. We could have taken the car down there but fancied the walk and were unsure whether the dirt road was ok for our little car. Probably no problem, so long as you take it slowly.

We walked from the gorge to the bridge and then with a car on the dirt road to the beach on the east of preveli beach. The beach itself was in our point of view terrible, liked ligres more. The walk from the gorge to the bridge was not quite what we have expected. On the side of the river there were several 'hippies', even with a young child (6-7jrs) barefooted.
I was not feeling certaint of the situation but the scenery was beautiful.

Hi Liane and Gerard

glad to hear you are enjoying Plakias and the Peligramnos

we are not there until next week and will be in the Medousa most nights, just to help you recognise us

 )

We will be there on Saturday evening and will be the ones hiding behind the group above.

John and Gillian

There is at monday (every week) live music at the Paligremnos. 22 september we will be there. Our description is very easy, I am the grey person with the young brunette who is also 4 inch longer  . Otherwise leave a message at the paligremnos if you would like to do so.

We will take a close look at Medousa in the evening.

We leave at 25 september.

For  the record, we found a good road to Ligres Beach from Spili. Much better than the unsurfaced road from the Arch over the river nearby Preveli.

ps: nice pic

At this moment, we are in Plakias for the first time. And it is really exact the place as it said. The paligremnos is perfect for us to stay.

The medousa restaurant is very good. Specially the starter shrimps salad.

But at the medousa we do not know who is a forum member or not. Is there plakias forum bell or something

Having a very good time,

Where to go / Ligres Beach

Is it possible to reach Ligres beach from Akoumia Beach. Seems on the google map that there is a small road from a little place Lampi (35.164977, 24.582381) to Akoumia beach.

Where to go / Renting a boat

I heard that at Damnoni [Hapimag?] were boats to hire. No idea what kind of ships they have in store. The company in plakias existed only a really short term and moved on to Naxos last year ... the link is still there  [ http://surfen-segeln-kreta.de/ ]
There  some nasty jetskiing round the beach this year, but I think they were private.

shinaria

Hi Shinaria,

I hate the jetskiing also. They are very dangerous and are often too close to the beach. Sailing is my thing.

The company in plakias... the owner is very bitter about the situation. But I will have a look at Damnoni this September.

Thanks for the information.

Why a Motor Boat when there is so much wind ?

Honestly you cant beat sailing, its free, its enviromentaly better, and its more fun, provided you have some experience
2 years ago when i was last in Plakias there was I believe a small catamaran for hourly rent, whether its still avaiable or whether you can hire self drive motor boat ...i'm not sure

Well thats true. For a couple of years ago we went sailing on the Cyclades with that kind of wind. On open sea, when sailing, I prefer a sailing boat of at least 30ft and that's what I did not find in Plakias  . A catamaran will do for a short trip, but not for thirty miles. Gerard loves it but Liane less.

The information in this forum is great. I like it a lot.

Does anyone know if it is possible to rent a boat in Plakias. Not a pedal boat or other devices that require manual labor.

A decent boat with motor.

Thanks,

Ideed a strange request. I hope there is not a Dutch taverne with bitterballen and frikandellen.

Thanks Mike  No offence but now I know what to avoid in Plakias.

We hope to eat as much as possible Greek food. The Greek food just taste better when you are in the country.
The Dutch Taverne is in Kos Town, beside the Agora .......... so what do you snack on with your Amstel?

The Plakias "chippy" is not a la Harry Ramsden - it is decidedly Greek - on a couple of occasions when we passed by, it was "Closed for Private Party"

Oh, yes now I remember again. There is a lot of Amstel in Greece. First I try the local beer and wine. And the rest. Normally after a late dinner I won't require snacks, although my partner.. but that's a different snack

Maybe I can score a good bottle of scotch wiskey in Heraklion. Islay or from the Orkney's. My better half likes it too.

Strange request I know, but there is a reason.
So, is there a place in Plakias where you can get taheaway fish & chips?
Thanks
Click on Article System above, then tavernas, and then Nikos Fish & Chips.

I agree it is a strange request, but each to his own!

Mike

We all know how much fuel has gone up in price and the £ has fallen against the €. I costed my Olympic 2008 Plakias holiday against the 2009 prices which have just been released and find that the increase is 70%. I wonder what the increase will be for the "independents" and doubtless this will unfold on the forum over the months. I'm likely to pay the vastly increased prices but suspect that many on a tighter budget won't be able to.

It sounds from another thread that in the Netherlands there is a better choice of package tour accommodation than we get in the UK. Lucky them!

Mike

I'm not sure if you want to pay 700-800 euros for two weeks. We escaped to Germany for a cheap (310euro   ) return ticket including all taxes and booked an accomodation privately.

Or you must watch the internet often for reduces prices. Today I saw for the Panorama Studio two weeks, leaving vrijdag 15, 22 august for € 499,-.

Where to stay / Individual booking at the Paligremnos appartment

We've considered the Paligremnos in the past and it's a favourite for several forum members. It is a 10 minute walk into the centre which could be a minus point on windy evenings - but then, you always have the option of eating at the Paligremnos which I'm sure is a reasonable place to eat.

It is settled, the reservation is made. Very easy with email.

Thank you all for replying.

Only 8 weeks to go.

i think you're missing the point, no one is taking extra luggage, we've been used to a 20 kilo allowance for as long as i can remember

the allowance has been reduced, we're having to pay for what we've taken as being normal

ah well if you're "OK" with it, fine...........

It's all about the little margins where the airliners in operate i think.

Perhaps the next step is not the luggage but yourself. 'Sir, you are 78kg, thats 5 kg less than the average. You receive 10euro.  '
