Renting a boat
« on: August 07, 2008, 09:46:13 AM »
The information in this forum is great. I like it a lot.

Does anyone know if it is possible to rent a boat in Plakias. Not a pedal boat or other devices that require manual labor.

A decent boat with motor.

Thanks,
Liane en Gerard

I heard that at Damnoni [Hapimag?] were boats to hire. No idea what kind of ships they have in store. The company in plakias existed only a really short term and moved on to Naxos last year ... the link is still there  [ http://surfen-segeln-kreta.de/ ]
There  some nasty jetskiing round the beach this year, but I think they were private.

Why a Motor Boat when there is so much wind ?

Honestly you cant beat sailing, its free, its enviromentaly better, and its more fun, provided you have some experience
2 years ago when i was last in Plakias there was I believe a small catamaran for hourly rent, whether its still avaiable or whether you can hire self drive motor boat ...i'm not sure

Well thats true. For a couple of years ago we went sailing on the Cyclades with that kind of wind. On open sea, when sailing, I prefer a sailing boat of at least 30ft and that's what I did not find in Plakias  . A catamaran will do for a short trip, but not for thirty miles. Gerard loves it but Liane less.

Hi Shinaria,

I hate the jetskiing also. They are very dangerous and are often too close to the beach. Sailing is my thing.

The company in plakias... the owner is very bitter about the situation. But I will have a look at Damnoni this September.

Thanks for the information.

Jetskiing wasn't any worse than last year, maybe once or twice a week, once with waterskies behind it, people doing it seemed careful and responsible enough to me, the story from the girl that rented out boats last year and moved on because she was forced to do so sounded very unpleasant indeed, apparently a lot is going on behind the scene that we don't no about, very unpleasant to hear things like that about Plak.

During our stay we have not seen any jetskiing in Plakias.
I think the changes will go on and I hope without risks for all people on the beach or in the sea.
