Hiking
« on: July 26, 2004, 12:35:10 PM »
As you can see I'm an old new boy and will be arriving in Plakias tomorrow night for the first time, I have however spent some wonderful times in Agia Pavlos practising yoga & also relaxxing in Matala!

I realise that it's a little late in the day but could anyone advise on the following :-

1) What are some of the best rugged walks from the town ( 6km - 10 km ) preferably with a lovely taverna at journey's end ?

2) Is it possible to hire low cc scooters, and if so approximately how much for  3 days / 1 week ?

3) Finally as a fish eating vegetarian (aquarian) I have been sifting through some of the general advice on the Taverna scene ... am I right in thinking that the Christos, Gourgonis, & secret Nest are the best fish eateries, and that Mousses, Croali & Ariadni are best for veggie only ?

Be grateful for a fairly prompt reply ... maybe see you there

Look for Lance Chilton's books in the supermarket.  'Ten walks in the Plakias Area' may be a bit tame for you so have a look at his other book 'Seven more - and more challenging- walks in the Plakias area'.

Secret Nest is excellent for fish.  Most Tavernas offer at least one veggie dish.

Have a great time

Allan

Howler,

We can definitely recommend the Christos for their fresh fish and octopus. Make not be the cheapest show in town, but for us is was the tastiest. The close proximity of the sea overlooking the harbour, also makes it a cooler place to eat.

Have fun

Thanks for your very informative responses to my request ... this is much more superior & specific than Lonely Planet.

I will now go & enjoy.
