Personally I found the Amstel seemed to be gassier than the Mythos, so I preferred the latter. I also assumed that the Amstel wasn't local, so again I chose the Mythos.
If you think Amstel (Dutch, I think) is gassy, try the draft Alpha!!  , excuse me!

I knew this thread would be a good idea, already i have got two new brews to seek out next year
The black beer sounds very interesting, (an IPA style  mmmm,) as do the Craft Brewery beers
Hello Chris,

I'm surprised you didn't try it in May this year. I know you went to the Souvlakia House as you wrote a review (one of the "few"). Maybe the Medousa's raki was more appealing! The "black" beer isn't black like Guinness but, as I say, brown like a bottled IPA (remember John Courage in the 60s/70s, or are you too young?). The black beer really stands out in Greece where almost all the beers are what we would call lagers at home.

I agree that local beers and foods are best in Greece (and anywhere I guess). e.g taramosalata, Mythos/Amstel.

Although I voted for Mythos I would be pushed to tell the difference between it and Amstel.  Could you distinguish them? Both are brewed in Greece I think.

There used to be other Greek beers like Fix and Henniger that I never see now.

Mike

Rethymnon Blondes are more fun! Just come back from lovely Plakias, the street Souvlaki outside Sifis serves the blond brew. Absolutely delicious.

Amstel is definitely brewed in Greece (tho' I can't remember exactly where).

The "Corali" has both Rethymno dark and light beer on the menu.  If I go there next year I will try one or t'other as an alternative to my usual Mythos.

sifis's also sells the rethyemaki beers! €2.70 for 250ml bottle though (and don't let him pour it, he doesn't understand sediment  )

when we were having our last meal at the kastro yesterday i spotted a bottle of  Mythos Red, never seen it before, yanni said it was very nice and said that the mythos brewery had been bought out by an english company (???)

Just been talking to a mate of mine just got back from Skiathos. Said it was expensive and a 500ml size of Mythos was 3.5 euros.

What's the price in Plakias, anyone, who's already been this year??

I don't drink a lot of it maybe a couple or three during the day   , but there are some forum members (no names mentioned here   ) who live on the stuff, so they'll be interested too!

Three weeks ago, the cost for 500ml bottled Mythos was €2.50, in Mastixari, on Kos.

Draught Alfa was €3 (and well worth it IMHO).
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! That's better

The same generally in Plakias in May. JBMouse has reported Mythos is only €2 in Sifi's.

Hi

A bit out of touch with the prices as with the new job not going out nearly as much, don't swoon those of you who have known us a few years!!

Some of the Tavernas are certainly still doing Mythos as 2 euro but the bars tend to be from 2.80 up.  With draft at around 3.

If you're wanting different beer for a change, don't forget 'On The Rocks' which has the draft beer from the Craft micro brewery in Athens.  Well worth a taste and whilst it can be a bit expensive, the bar is a great place to relax and have a chat and the beer is definitely worth trying.

He was fine when I was there Chris, except one Saturday evening when he got a bit stroppy with local kids doing wheelies just outside his place. That magnificant moustache gives him the impression of someone you wouldn't want to fall out with!

there are certain times when you really need that beer, coming off the beach on a hot day, at the end of hard days walking (or in the middle)

so which one do you go for?

Mythos is my favourite by far, followed swiftly by another!!!
