Plakias / The Livikon, still going?
« on: May 14, 2024, 08:38:33 PM »
We have just seen a YouTube video from 6th May this year, and the Livikon appears closed, no ta kes to be seen. Can anyone confirm if it is Permanently  closed, or just too early in the season,  thanks.

Plakias / Floods
« on: October 16, 2022, 12:52:26 PM »
Terrible news and pictures of the floods on Crete, all the news is from the North coast, but can anyone tell me did anything bad happen to Plakias, did the gorges overflow like before and damage the roads etc in the southern areas of Crete?
Best wishes to all those that have been affected, wherever they may be.

Plakias / Webcam gone?
« on: August 02, 2022, 04:25:12 PM »
The webcam at Livikon and Morpheus is not working again, the Morpheus apartments website is non existent, so is the end for the webcam? If anyone is lucky enough to be in Plakias, perhaps they could ask Dionysos at The Livikon if the webcam is really finished.
Thanks

Further ways to get regular fixes of Plakias are on YouTube, one link here from a chap who films all over Crete, with this being last Sunday in Plakias.

PlakChat / Chania Duty Free shop
« on: June 30, 2020, 04:38:05 PM »
Can anyone answer my query about Chania Airport Duty Free shop? We have always flown out of Heraklion for over 20 years, and I always buy Ouzo from Lesvos in the Duty Free there, always a good selection, but Chania is a much smaller airport (nice) so does anyone know what sort of selection of Lesvos Ouzos are available at Chania Airport?
This is assuming that Easyjet don't cancel and then consolidate our Chania flight to one landing at Heraklion!
Thanks

Plakias / No webcam - because.......
« on: October 16, 2019, 08:52:29 AM »
There is no webcam currently as the big digger being used to dredge the river by the Forum cut through the telecom cables to the Livicon side of the village. So no land line phones or internet that side, but, luckily for me, no problems at KC.
The weather here is, and has been, fantastic, hot, sunny and little or no wind for the past week, and will continue like that for a good few more days, happy times for all in Plakias.

Holiday Companies / Olympic and Kostas Chrysoulla 2020
« on: September 24, 2019, 01:29:47 PM »
I have been looking to holiday again in Plakias, and, as usual, went straight to the Olympic site, but no sign of KC for any date in 2020. Telephoned Olympic, and they don't have it listed for 2020, the advisor thought it might appear in a couple of weeks, but as the Olympic site only gives 3 properties, it would appear this is the final run down of Olympic going to Plakias.
Sad, but as we already go independently to other Greek destinations, we will have to add Plakias to the Easyjet independent list!
If anyone has any other info, would be appreciated.

Where to go / Agios Nikolaos, Peloponnese
« on: November 07, 2015, 06:45:23 PM »
Has anyone been to Agios Nikolaos on the Mani peninsula? We have already booked for next June based on what I could find out from the internet, so any thoughts from other members would be welcomed. Agios Nikolaos sounds ideal as we like quiet, very Greek places, as Plakias was once!

Holiday Companies / Olympic Loyalty Bonus (or not)
« on: November 07, 2015, 06:29:30 PM »
We have been considering our holiday options for 2016, Plakias? Lesvos? or Agios Nikolaos near Kalamata, Peloponnese. Price is a large consideration, so travelling with Thomas Cook again to Lesvos is out of the question as they want nearly £1000 for 1 week S/C for 2 people in late June. Plakias is an acceptable price for the same time and period, but as we will probably be there in October, two visits in 1 year could be called greedy. Agios Nikolaos is somewhere we have never visited, but the description of a small, quiet Greek fishing village, requiring a basic grasp of the language would appear to be exactly what we want. So, who goes there? Only Thomas Cook and Olympic. Thomas Cook have excelled themselves and want OVER £1000 for 1 week S/C for 2 people in late June, whereas Olympic, at a different accommodation are quoting on their website a price of £530 for the same week, but excluding transfers, which I can buy directly from the Taxi company for £100, so total £630. Good, I thought, a phone call to Olympic, let them see my numerous holidays with them each year for the past 20 years, and, hey presto, my friends and family discount (given freely for many years past) will reduce my costs some more, enough perhaps for travel insurance, or a few litres of wine with our meals out, but NO, Olympic offer loyalty points now, so how many hundreds of points do I have after all the past holidays I asked - none, nil, zero, nothing was the reply!!!! So much for Loyalty Points, perhaps there is a Trades Description breach? Olympic explained that points are only earned if the past holidays cost more than £300 per person, so there you have it, over a barrel, a bit unimpressed with Olympic, but heyho, off to Greece again.

If anyone has been to Agios Nikolaos before, any pointers would be gratefully received.

Where to eat...or not! / To Exepoito
« on: September 25, 2015, 07:55:30 PM »
I am mystified by this name for an eatery in Plakias, it is on Trip Advisor as an excellent Gyros/Souvlaki place, so am I correct in thinking this is what I know as the Souvlaki hut directly in front of Sifi's?
Many years holidaying in Plakias, but have never tried the Souvlaki hut!!! Can anyone tell me where this 'To Exepoito' is located. The spelling is as shown on Trip Advisor so may, or may not, be correct.
Now for the good bit: only 10 days to go!!!!

Holiday Companies / Olympic/Germania cancelled flight(s)
« on: August 26, 2015, 06:34:59 PM »
I have just had an email from Olympic about a change of flight to Iraklion on 6th. October, from Gatwick, saying Olympics' allocation of seats on the flights have been cancelled!! Good news however is that we will be (should be) on the Thomson flight scheduled out at 07.30, so we could get an extra couple of hours in Plakias before we need to eat. (hope there is enough Mythos in resort for this unplanned extra spree). Yesterdays Thomson flight used a new Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which would be another bonus for me, can I wish for a taxi transfer as well, or is that too much?
Can anyone shed any light on this although I will be contacting Olympic on Thursday, wondering if Germania are still in business, or have Olympic fallen out with another airline, like happened with Monarch a few years ago.
Nearly time, only a few weeks to go.............

Plakias / The Train
« on: April 11, 2015, 12:03:48 PM »
Just a quick enquiry about the (long lost & missed) train. Does anyone know if there are any plans for it to run again this year or ever? Perhaps Dave & Les can answer that.
We are off again in June to Lesvos, and there is a train running there last year and this year between Mythimna, Petra and Anaxos, (www.villagetrain.gr) and it would be nice if our October visit to Plakias were to feature the train again.

Holiday Companies / Olympic Price reduction
« on: April 01, 2015, 01:23:46 PM »
Maybe I should not be posting this here,as a nice quiet holiday in Plakias is what we like, but last night I was checking the Olympic prices for Plakias, and struck lucky, good timing or something, as Olympic had reduced the Costas Chrysoulla, from Gatwick, on 6th. October for 1 week to £426, incl 20kg each, transfers, everything. Needless to say I shook their hand before they sobered up, and will be back in Plakias again on 6th. October. We will be in Anaxos, Lesvos in June as well. Yoohoo!!!

PlakChat / Sirocco Restaurant
« on: August 01, 2011, 04:52:20 PM »
Before I book to return to Plakias again can anyone who has been tp Plakias recently this year, (June/July) please tell me if the Sirocco restaurant is still operating, especially is Babis still working front of house for his Dad (Capello look alike- poor man). I had heard Babis had left for a Monastry, but, knowing the Greek way of doing things, this is often not for life!
So, is Babis there?
I would miss not being able to sit and watch the sun set behind the hill, but no doubt I could console myself with a few more drinks at the Livicon, and learn some more greek from Dionysius.
