2006 season in Plakias
« on: March 29, 2006, 03:11:22 PM »
Although some Forum members have visited Plakias already I guess most will arrive from April onwards.

It would help those planning to go if some of the Plakias residents could inform us what is going on. e.g.

1) Has the bus service(s) started and to where.

2) Which tavernas/bars are not opening for 2006 or have changed hands.

3) Ditto for markets/supermarkets.

4) Are there any boat trips?

I have seen that the Meltemi disco has now gone; however, my best disco days are well in the past!

OK, as no one else wants to, I'll start this thread off. Forniman's mate is charging €70 for the taxi journey from Plakias to the airport (and presumably the same going in the other direction). Click [a href=\"http://www.plakias-taxi.com/]here[/url]. Last year the quoted taxi fare on a board at the airport said €75 each way. Life insurance is extra!

Ok, I will try and remember all the changes

1.  Nikos who used to work at Yialia and last year at Panorma in Mirthios now has On the Rocks

2.  Nikos Souvlaki this year is being run by Colin and Femka two friends who were living in England.  Femka has connections to Food for Thought restaurant in London and is a top chef.  Food will mainly be veggie but a lot of Nikos old favorites will still be on the menu

3.  Nikos (from Souvlaki) is concentrating on his horses.  He new venture for the year is a horse drawn carriage from trips around the bay.

4.  Sophia B has gone and the plan is that Moto Auto Plakias, Dive 2gether and the vegetable shop will move into three units being built there.

5.  Ariandne has been taken over by a couple from Kent, Pat and Sam.  They are busy giving it a thorough clean and a fresh coat of paint.  They intend doing a fairly standard menu with some different dishes as well.

6.  Tavernaki as some people noted whilst here and were surprised at, reopened in October under new management.  Strangely they could not make a go of it in the winter and it is now available again.

The bars are all run by the same people with maybe a few staff changes but nothing major.

There is no change in the supermarkets.

There is a new building going up by Dora but not sure totally what is being built.  The building of the new hotel along the beach road has not started.

Tour reps:  Morven, I'm pleased to say, is back for the summer and is working for Olympic, and the rep for Kosmar is ME!!

If I thing of anything else I will make a posting.

Thanks Ali,

George will be ecstatic to know Morven is back. She was one of the most personable reps I have met.

Where is Nikos Souvlaki? I assume this is not the Souvlaki House (The Hut).

Is the Aussie guy still at Mousses? Bit of a character although he was taking his life into his hands when he said to my partner Diane "you must have been a bit of a looker when you were younger" Oops.

Perhaps when the bus starts you could let us know if it is just going to Rethymnon as 2005.

Congratulations - that is brilliant. Though we went independent last year (and will again this year ) we could see how well you enhanced the Plakias scene for visitors - a job well done and an appointment well deserved.

Might even sneak into one of your intro talks

Thanks for the general update as well - much appreciated.

Thank you all for your encouraging comments, it's going to be a challenge next year but I am definitely looking forward to it.  John you are more than welcome to sneak into a welcome meeting, hopefully by the time you come out I will be well practised.

Mike, Nikos Souvlaki is between the chemist and Easyride bike hire.

But you question did remind me that Sifi who has been working in the souvlaki 'hut' for years is in the process of opening his own place just next door where Odysia Motorbike hire was, next to Nufaro (Jo's bar).  The hut will still be there run by the family from Selia.

Only other news I can think of at the moment is that Odyseus who had the bicycle hire up from our shop has moved to Rethymnon.
