Yes,
we have early booked 12 days beginning of 1. May.
(Had to, because of holiday restrictions of my spouse = teacher and we donot want to miss the spring   in P*)
Flight + Smallest car whole period for 2 persons: € 750.= including taxes and  full insurance.  (Brussels-Heraklion)
No package deals from touroperators found for 12 days, which could be screwed in the 2 weeks leave.    8 days only is too short in our opinion. First week of May is already very popular here and a schoolholiday.)

counting off: ± 133 days.

i've had a quick look myself, and i can't see any cheap packages for may (UK packages tend to be 7 or 14 days), i am sorely tempted to go back to Kostas-Chrysoulla for two weeks, and thats looking to be £340+ (€490)

i have not looked at car prices yet but i think i'll give the jeep a miss this year  and go for a sensible car with air con

Poor Harribobs,

will you be convicted to Kostas for 14 days?
Anyway there are for sure worst places to spend your holidays.
We saw a package deal to Malia!
NB cheaper as flight only!

Hello Beachcombers,

Are fuel supplements universal in Holland as they seem to be in the UK for charter flights? £30 per person for the return trip. However, I heard Michael O'Leary, the boss of Ryanair, say on the radio in August that for a flight to the Mediterranean the extra fuel cost was no more than £4 each way, and fuel costs have decreased since then.

I've never seen a 12 day package in the UK, just 7, 14, or 21. Some operators sometimes offer 10 or 11 days, although these are not usually to Greece.

Hi Mike,
this is the fare:
Brussels - Heraklion Cost Euro 133.= (basis Euro 110.41 including fuel supplement + airport tax Euro 22.59)
Return flight Euro 123.= (all included)

In Holland operators are quoting 5/8/11/12/15 DAYS package deals to many resorts a.o.: Greece and Gr. islands. See e.g.: Jiba.nl
The package number of days are including the first and last travelling day! I.e.: If you leave the airport at 23:50 and arrive back in Holland at 00:30 hrs you have spend within one hour 2 days of your package.    The actual departure and arrival times are not always announced when a booking is made.
This causes a lot of irritation.

In the UK nights iso days quoted.   No idea if the operators are doing the same trick.

Oh i like it there!!  I am quite happy to return there, but we'll probably do a bit of touring

i can get cheap package deals to the north coast, the cheapest i have paid is £99 (€140) but if you add the accomodation on top, it has been more expensive than a complete package to plakias ( or any south coast town)

in the UK flight times are published before you book BUT  they are liable to change and sometimes that can be a big change

Correction. When I checked my invoices the fuel supplements were £20 (Olympic)and £25 (Kosmar) not £30.

hmm Olympic fuel supplements from Manchester are £25

flight supplements are £35 ( just wiping out the early booking discount of £35)

however it would seem the take up of holidays to Plakias is not as strong as last year (at this point)

interestingly on a web booking it costs the same for 2 weeks (in may) at the Dora as it does Kristos chrysoula  (i know which one i would go for)

i wonder how it takes more fuel from manchester than from newcastle  i've only got a £20 fuel supplement with olympic.  i have to pay a £79 flight supplement though - again wiping out the £65 discount they gave me

We had a look at Dora last May and although people on this forum speak highly of it, it doesn't look much from the outside. Also, my partner likes a pool for the times when I go off on a "routemarch".

We are paying £530 for two from Gatwick in May which is up on 2005 owing to flight and fuel supplements. I still think it is good value if you compare it with something similar in France or Italy.

I stayed at Dora many times. I would agree it is not the best maintained place in town, but we found the warm welcome from Dora, and little touches like a little bottle of Raki in the room made up for it. It is also very quiet there - and if you book with Olympic, you do have use of the Costas Chrysoula pool

2nd'd John
I've stayed there for the last 2 years and will be there again this year. I had no complaints whatsoever and the Raki is probably the best I've tasted.
The room was cleaned regulaly and was well satisfied with the accomadation.
I not in the room very often so it's perfect for me!
I felt the pool at the CC was a little claustophobic, so never went there.

Chris,

You may not have got any Raki at Dora but I seem to remember you made up for it at Kostas Chrysoulla last year (no, I'm not complaining!). George mentioned the taste of Dora's Raki. I've never detected much taste to Raki, only the fiery kick of 40ish% ethanol.

Getting back more to this thread's title, what did anyone think of Kosmar and the Apollon in 2005? I have read the one report in the reviews section and additional info on tour operators I haven't used for Plakias is always useful.

Mike
