Plakias / Re: October ?
« on: May 19, 2020, 02:36:23 PM »
Hi Daza, like you I am concerhned for my Ouzo supply. I was luck to have been back to Lesvos last June and brought back at least 10 litres, plus I could buy Ouzo Mitiline and Barbagianni in Plakias, and even more in duty free at Heraklion (Aphrodite/Mini etc) so I thought I was good to get through till June and our next trip to Kalamata, but I am getting low now. Lidl has Greek week starting on 21st May, so I will test drive one of their bottles with a view to more if it is drinkable! Lidl are doing lots of yummy Greek food as well, including Bougatsa!!!
Yiammas to all

Gossip / Re: greek attitude to uk lockdown, Guardian
« on: May 12, 2020, 12:14:25 PM »
Maybe we can have some local news of how Plakias is coping, and of any plans there to re-open the hotels and Tavernas. We have a trip booked for very early June to Kalamata, independant travel through easyjet, and are forever hopeful it may go ahead, but looking less likely now, but local info about anywhere being open on June ist. would help. Our Plakias trip is 1st. October, again independently with easyjet and KC, and would certainly hope that will go ahead.
Well done Greece!

We are due to go to Kalamata in June, but suspect that will not happen, but really hoping our normal trip to Plakias can take place in October.
All the best to all Plakias residents, I'll be back!

I'm sure Kostas Chrysouilla wouldn't mind if buying drinks/food, they have so many different accomodations that they use, there are always 'strangers' coming and going!

Where to eat...or not! / Re: Any recommendations

Nearly all are favorites, but can concur with others that Sirocco is very good, but do try Ton Kzoni down the side street to KC, it's next to The Cozy Backyard.

I too was up at 5.30am booking for October 2020, Chania was less cost than Heraklion, and I agree, the prices were reasonable, alittle higher than expected as we paid quite a bit less for Kalamata next June, but hey ho, Plakias is worth it.

Plakias / No webcam - because.......
« on: October 16, 2019, 08:52:29 AM »
There is no webcam currently as the big digger being used to dredge the river by the Forum cut through the telecom cables to the Livicon side of the village. So no land line phones or internet that side, but, luckily for me, no problems at KC.
The weather here is, and has been, fantastic, hot, sunny and little or no wind for the past week, and will continue like that for a good few more days, happy times for all in Plakias.

AI in Greece, no way for us, unless you have children, when the AI plan does work.
Olympic prices for the Apollo are very high, so we shall scout out some nice self catering in Plakias when we are there. We like the look of Manolis, not far to walk to all the tavernas, access to bread for breakfast at the supermarket next to The Livicon, not too far for the wife to get it in the morning! They have a pool and everything else we need, has anyone used Manolis recently?
Would love to stay at On The Rocks, superb views over Skinos beach, so  many to choose, the world is your lobster, my son!
Just have to wait for the next release of easyjet for the September/October flights.
We got a good deal from easyjet last Thursday for flights to Kalamata next June.

Holiday Companies / Olympic and Kostas Chrysoulla 2020
« on: September 24, 2019, 01:29:47 PM »
I have been looking to holiday again in Plakias, and, as usual, went straight to the Olympic site, but no sign of KC for any date in 2020. Telephoned Olympic, and they don't have it listed for 2020, the advisor thought it might appear in a couple of weeks, but as the Olympic site only gives 3 properties, it would appear this is the final run down of Olympic going to Plakias.
Sad, but as we already go independently to other Greek destinations, we will have to add Plakias to the Easyjet independent list!
If anyone has any other info, would be appreciated.

Plakias / Re: Major building work underway at far end!!
« on: July 30, 2019, 04:28:45 PM »
Just checked the web, searched for 'new beach bar Plakias' and got links to Mes Tin Ammo, which I guess is the new beach bar, but it has been there before, so probably just a new build on the old site.
Looks good, only 10 weeks to go then I can check it out!

Plakias / Re: Update
« on: March 18, 2019, 10:42:58 AM »
Thanks for the update, in normal circumstances it is nice to hear of the life in and around Plakias, always makes us feel homesick, and wishing we, like you, could live there, but the news about the widespread flooding and subsequent damage is not so good, but I would hope that the repairs all get done, and life for the great people of Plakias returns to peaceful normality soon.
As usual counting the days 'til October, and our Plakias holiday, although Lesvos will see us back there in June!
Agapame tin Ellada!

Plakias / Re: Flooding
« on: February 26, 2019, 03:38:02 PM »
Just checked out the facebook link, and Crete TV, all looks disastrous. The video of the Megalopotomas bridge on the way to Preveli shows how bad it ws. I can only imagine the beach at Preveli and the palms have been washed away, but let's hope not.
The pictures show the overflow onto the car park very well, now Sifi knows why he built the taverna a bit higher than others!

Sound terrible, let's hope all can be put right again before the season.
I cannot find anything about this myself, videoas etc., any links anyone?

Holiday Companies / Re: Olympic discounts?
« on: January 09, 2019, 10:14:50 AM »
Spend over £800 to go to Plakias? Far too much! Already booked with Olympic, without any discount, but way lower price than £800 (total for 2 of us).
The Olympic 12 Islands of Christmas discount scheme did not materialise this year, so we are very pleased we booked in October when the Easyjet flights for next October were released, and the Olympic prices were realistic, and only a little more than we paid for 2018.

This is the way it is going now, for all tour companies, and especially if you are visiting smaller, more out of the way places. The telephone contact should, hopefully work with Olympic, and you will get to speak to someone in Rethymno, or maybe try Anso travel, as Elspeth did some of her paperwork in there, and they may help in an emergency. Let's hope it doesn't get like Thomas Cook, who have a telephone help line, but this June, when I was questioning the delayed flight from Kalamata, I discovered I was talking to someone on Majorca! Not even in Greece!
Sad to see Elspeth go, let's hope for her sake, that Olympic don't put someone else in Plakias, when Elspeth would obviously have liked to carry on, and put her hard earned local knowledge to use.
We have already booked for next October at KC!!!! (Lesvos in June :)
