Top 20 holiday property destinations
« on: May 12, 2005, 05:45:21 PM »
Hope this is not too off topic

Some months ago there was a prog on tele about the top 20 holiday property destinations. There WAS a certain amount of "this place has tripled in value in 3 weeks" etc.

The list (in order) was as follows The Algarve, Cape Town, Turkey, Slovenia, Limousin, Bulgaria, Teruel, Croatia, Cyprus,, Normandy, Barcelona, Cape Verde, Tuscany, Costa del Sol, Down Under, ,Florida, Marrakech, St Kitts and Nevis, French Riviera, Dubai

So more than 1/2 skirted the Med - France Spain, Italy, Turkey, Bulgaria, Cyprus, North Africa but significantly no Greece or Greek islands (is it PC to exclude Cyprus?).

You may say "thank goodness for that" but it got me wondering - whyever not ? - am I missing something ?

Any ideas ?

i must admit i tend NOT to watch these sort of programmes,

was it a 'how to make money by buying and selling property' type?

thank god south crete wasn't on there, we'll have all sorts turning up and buying property

i'll go and have look around 'lemon trees' next week, make sure no ones parked their caravan there

i know it probably makes me a bit of a saddo but since i'm in the process of building in crete and buying/extending in london I do tend to watch them. That particular prog wasnt overtly about making profits but the investment  side WAS frequently mentioned.

BTW our venture has probably negative investment value - we'd probably have been better of putting the money in the bank and renting with the interest - but the spot just grabbed us the first time we saw it (and continued to grab us through the 2 1/2 year deciding and negotiation period)

by pure fluke (and you won't like this) there was an article in the times today

http://property.timesonline.co.uk/article/...1609390,00.html

I didnt do it - honest

if u r still in P on or after may 31 I hope to bump into you

( I wonder if Haris has planted the lemon trees yet)

don't get me wrong mate, if i could afford a place in crete, i'd have one tomorrow it's just those programmes that wind me up

the crete property consultants rings a bell, sure i've heard something about them

we're flying back on the 31st but i'm sure we'll be back later in the year and you can buy me a mythos at the ostraco then
