Gorgona
« on: June 17, 2013, 08:06:59 AM »
Ate at Gorgona last night. Good food as usual but Chris (?) still the star of the show. The consummate professional head waiter. greets you as a long lost friend and looks after you beautifully. Now joined by his daughter, who has obviously benefitted from her fathers training. Not the best food, but defo the nicest staff!

Agreed, maybe not the best, but not so far behind the best either....honest food, good value, tasty, and the best kitchen window in the village...(Paligremnos ain't in the village) Two years since was last there....I remember food from here more than any other eating place.

I agree, although the staff move from Gorgona to Sofia and back again so it's hard to keep track of who's where. I like them both, principally because of the window display. I can see what I'm going to eat and both display good Greek food, as it should be displayed.
Do you mean Babis and his daughter? He certainly does make everybody welcome and he works so hard.
Is George there again this year? I hope so but will find out for myself in just two weeks' time.
I can't wait.

May be Babis. He has a name badge but the writing is a bit small and I feel a little self conscious putting my reading glasses on and peering! It was lovely to walk in and be made to feel like he remembered us from last year, despite knowing that he almost certainly didn't. I don't think I did anything last year to make me stick in his mind! If George is the tall guy in tatty jeans who escorted my wife to the switch machine via several tables in the restaurant, then yes!

Thanks. Yes. George is a really tall well build guy, although he just glides between the tables. He's always jovial and friendly. I'm looking forward to seeing them both.

The last time I was at this restaurant was in 2009.  They weren't very friendly, the food wasn't all that good, the general atmosphere wasn't pleasant, and the service was indifferent.  (But it was cheap.)  So I haven't been back since.

Oooh! times must have changed. Perhaps you ought to review it once more. Always happy to see me and my girlfriend, food was excellent, prices were good, atmosphere was more than acceptable and the Rakomeli on the odd occasion rather than the straight forward firewater (nice too) was apprieciated. I know - it's for the young ones that can't take the hard stuff - but we liked it(sweet tooth). And of course the view was great too. Finally the walk hope was a hop, skip and a jump away. No complaints.

I'd agree with that. From memory I think Costas (of Costas Chrysoulas) is now involved with the Gorgona and has been since 2011 at least. Things have changed ......a lot.....and the staff now are lovely and very welcoming and the food is good too. Things change all the time but we're looking forward to being back and will definitely be eating there again this year.

OK, I'll give it another shot.  Oddly enough, Gorgona features as the no.1 restaurant in Plakias on TripAdvisor.  Hmm.  Maybe things have changed for the better.
