Kalimera Kriti!
« on: May 12, 2012, 01:38:32 PM »
Hello everyone on the Plakias Forum, this is my first post after reading many on this great info sharing site. Myself my wife Frankie and my kids all love Plakias and our first visit was in 2002 and we have returned twice since, and we are coming back (HOME) on the 24 May! The first time we were really lucky in finding Plakias as we booked a last minute holiday with a travel firm, and the resort was designated on arrival. After a coach tour around the island which seemed to go on forever we were dropped off in Rethymnon, in the baking midday heat and me with no hat and a balding pate! We were informed that a Taxi would be taking us to our (secret?) destination. Eventually as with most things on Crete our Taxi arrived and made its way on the road we all know, through the lovely gorge and when i asked the driver where are we going he stopped on a headland and we got out and he said look PLAKIAS! We stayed in the apartments on the hill on the way into town for a week, cannot remember the name but they were white and blue and had a lovely lawm in front. The owner was a lovely chap who was in a wheelchair, and we were informed he has sadly passed away. We had a great holiday and were told we could use the Alianthos Gardens pool and facilities and thats where we will be from the 24 May! Hope to speak to lots of Plak friends in the future. Garry and Frankie.

Thanks Nora, you will have a fab holiday in Plakias and there is so much to see and places to go. Are you hiring a car because airport transfers have gone through the roof. Also if you have a car you can visit lots of other towns and villages. If not there are still plenty of great spots within walking distances, and boat trips to lovely beaches like Dammoni are a must! Plakias in Setember will be lovely, not so much of the summer Meltemi, hot and blustery wind. And the sea temperature will be nice and warm. Have a great holiday Nora, best wishes, Garry and Frankie.

Hi Garry and Frankie
We are on a package to The Irida so transfers included. I have the Lance Chiltern walking book  - we generally visit most places on foot and have a break from driving. September in Plakias sounds ideal for us. You have a lovely holiday too - can you sample the taverna's and report back?
