Flight times were good with 3 hours in Athens on journey out & 1 on the return, but Athens is a great airport so 3 hours passed very, even too quickly!
Ah, that changes matters slightly. I was under the impression they flew to Iraklio non-stop from Stansted. I already have a stop-over flying from Heathrow so a stop-over from Stansted would not negate the extra journey I would have to make to and from Stansted. However, I will do some comparison of flight timings from both airports, next year.
