Cycling in Plakias

Now I know that you can hire bikes in Plakias, maybe someone can tell me any where to bike to !!

Just nice easy rides will do, no mega big excursions please !!!

Is it quite flat on the roads out of Plakias ?

No Pimo, easy answer. Everywhere out of the village is UP!!!

The one going out of town towards the Oasis is a long one, but from then on it's not too bad as long as you go right towards Lefkogia. The road left is a long twisting road that rises all the way to the 'T' junction, where you'd turn left towards Myrthios, then outside Myrthios it gets worse. I walked to Lefkogia last year and it really wasn't 'that' bad, once the hill from the village is out of the way!
Best to make your own mind up when you get there!!  Everyone has there own opinion of how bad or good things are, me, I'll stick to the car!

I'd agree that Lefkogia's not too bad, and from there you've got Damnoni and Shinaria. The other way, Souda's also pretty flat. I'ts a pity though that some of the nicest places would involve some very hard cycling. Kali Sikia anyone?

Yes the last stretch from the top of the gorge at Kanevos to kali sikia alwas seems very hot, as you usually lose the cooling 'breeze' after climbing the gorge. (Excellent taverna at Kanevos with typical local food [including snails] still using the 'look in the kitchen' menu system)

Flatter routes can be found by making use of the service roads alongside the aquaducts eg turn left at the top of the hill towards Mirthios and turn right to drop down to the aquaduct after about 300 meters. This will give you a virtally flat ride all the way to the main road just above Lefcogia and its nearly downhill all the way then to Plakias. The route back can be also made via Amoudi the via the headland to Damnoni leaving a small climb up to the main road

Ali (as in A & D ) has cycled in the local area with Odysses before he moved to Rethymno and proved helpful in locating the backroads route from Angouseliana to Koxare
