Hi All,
Just noticed how much flights to Heraklion have gone up since I last visited in 2023. A return flight is up by around ?250, that is in August with extra leg room seats but no food.
But I'm still going !

Where to eat...or not! / Corner
« Last post by kokkinos vrachos on March 25, 2025, 06:22:47 PM »
Today on the bank holidays (25 March) I ate something in the Corner. I ate a Stepaski for 8Euro. It was good and nice and juicy. In May 2021, I still paid 6Euro for the Stepaski.

Since the Ukraine crisis and inflation, the Corner has raised its prices considerably and the portions have become smaller.

The kebab dish, for example, now costs 11Euro. Tzatziki 4.60Euro. Salads between 6.50Euro and 7.80Euro.
0.5 litre Alfa beer 4.50Euro! There is no water as a welcome drink.

Of course, the three tables outside directly on the new wooden-promenade with a great view of Cape Kakomouri are tops.

"The interventions will be completed by the end of the week according to what the deputy governor of Rethymno Mary Lioni said in the ?Cretan Inspection? and Goodnet.gr, with crews focussing on completing the final checks at this point. On Wednesday, the crane is expected to be removed from the area and then proceed with asphalt works. By early next week at the latest, after months of work by crews and aerial artists, traffic will be dedicated."

Plakias / Paligremnos is history...
« Last post by kokkinos vrachos on March 24, 2025, 06:39:48 PM »
Yassas, I walked past the Taverna Paligremnos earlier and there's not a single stone left. The beach bar has also vanished into thin air...

Plakias / Re: Nikos at 'On The Rocks'
« Last post by kokkinos vrachos on March 24, 2025, 06:23:06 PM »
Yes, that's right, the contract expired on 31 October 2024. There was a farewell party.

But I had heard that he was probably planning a new project...

I walked past On The Rocks Cafe earlier, it looked the same as always... No idea what's going on there...

Plakias / Nikos at 'On The Rocks'

I have been told that on the rocks has closed permanently and Nikos has retired, can someone confirm this for me?

Yassas, talked to a friend (local) today about the Foinikias Kantina. It is located above Souda Bay on Kastri Mountain. We talked about the food and the prices. He then said that the Kri Kri Taverna was the most expensive Taverna in Plakias.

In addition to good reviews, there were also many negative reviews last year. Some visitors made negative comments:

- That the first question from the waiter had been whether to pay in cash or by card?

- The slow service and the long wait for the order and the bill were also criticised.

- that water and bread are charged at 2Euro per person. This has been the case since May 2023.

- No more (red) house wine as in previous years, instead only (more expensive) bottled wines.

- Very expensive

I went to the Kri Kri Taverna in October 2014 and had a pizza, but I wasn't convinced by it. I actually wanted to give the pizza another chance - but I won't do that now. It's a great pity about this development at Kri Kri.
