Plakias / Re: This forum is commin' like a ghost town

Hi Daza,

I look at this forum regularly and have been disappointed at how quite is has become.  I'll see what I can do to contribute whilst we are in Plakias in September.  Enjoy Arillas.  I've sent you a PM.

Plakias / Re: Any Plakias Updates?
« on: May 11, 2018, 03:28:56 PM »
There are pictures of the new "red carpet" on the Facebook group Plakias. It looks like a coat of paint, and no more. The trip hazard holes still appear to be there. Perhaps the paint is to make better visual contrast with the beach, to prevent unwary visitors from falling off?

It isn't Air France - it is a charter company ASL France.  My daughter flew with them last year from Manchester to Plakias with no concerns.

I hope you find someone to go with. However, although we're all friendly here, this forum is public and I'd suggest you remove your email address and phone number from your post, to avoid getting spammed. You can ask people to respond by personal message, then you can give them your contact details direct.

Hope you get back to Plakias soon.

Gossip / Re: Useful links

Hi,

I can get the links with Chrome.  As a workaround for those of you desperate for the information, I have copied the web links.  Hope it works:

Plakias: http://penteli.meteo.gr/stations/plakias/

Preveli: http://www.meteo.gr/meteoplus/cf_printEN.cfm?city_id=198

Sadly, I have already had my visit to Plakias this year.  To everyone still to go, enjoy your holiday.

Where to eat...or not! / Re: Throubis (opposite Cozy Cafe)
« on: August 09, 2017, 12:10:59 PM »
You can access Kosta Chrysoula either through a little passageway or via the road beside the supermarket. So as you go up the road by the supermarket, Throubis is on the left hand side about half way between the sea front and the lane to the back entrance of Kosta Chrysoula. I don't know if you've been to Plakias before so not sure what landmarks to give you. Just down the road from Minoiko. Cozy Backyard (sorry got the name wrong) is a newish bar next to Ksezoni. In short, it is a very short stroll from Kosta Chrysoula.

Where to eat...or not! / Throubis (opposite Cozy Cafe)
« on: August 07, 2017, 12:01:15 PM »
We ate at Throubis last night and I can recommend it. We had a tomato & cucumber salad and the ingredients were really tasty. I had octopus with pasta, which was really succulent. Mr Arnaki had pastitsio which he also rated highly. With half a kilo of red wine it came to €24. We had a free carafe of raki and a small dessert on the house. The service was extremely friendly and efficient. Whilst we were there a party of 14 turned up, were accommodated without fuss and the service to all customers continued without problem. Throubis has been quite busy so may not need my recommendation, but I wouldn't want you to miss out.

Plakias / Re: News

My understanding is that when the Meltemi blows in summer, a wind from the north, it is funnelled down the two gorges which increases the wind strength. Some spots of Plakias seem windier than others, which may have to do with the alignment with the gorges perhaps? I'm disabled and nearly got blown off my feet a couple of times yesterday, but today the wind is lighter with the usual strong gusts here and there. None of the wind and weather forecasts seem accurate!

Less windy this morning so just got caked in sand rather than exfoliated by it. This afternoon the wind is back with a vengeance. The building on the back road near Porto Plakias that has been in progress for years looks almost finished now but work has stopped for the season. There is also a new building starting next to it. There is a new taverna on side road which someone mentioned here before. The menu looks good but haven't had time to try it yet.

The boats still go to Preveli, the staff in the tavernas are mainly unchanged. Paralia Bar has closed down. There are more sunbeds on the beach road and On the Rocks beaches, but the Far End is much the same.

If I see any other changes I'll keep them to myself so you have something to discover.

We first came to Plakias about 12 years ago, so we're novices compared to some contributors. What draws me back is the friendly welcome and easy access to a naturist beach. As a disabled person it can be difficult to get to many of the more out-of-the-way beaches.

Just to put your minds at rest, there were no delays on entry at passport control at Heraklion on Tuesday. Only a glance, a smile and a thank you.

We arrived today. Very windy. There are some new buildings starting - one beside the small set of rooms opposite Alianthos hotels, and a larger development starting behind the Plakias Rrsort (on the way to the far end). So far no further development at Plakias Resorts, but the sign has been renewed, which may mean a renewed attempted to build. Excuse any errors, drinking raki in Gorgona. Cheers!

If it wasn't for the transfers, I'd probably travel independently, although a package gives ABTA  protection. Having said that, I couldn't get anything much cheaper independently for the high season. Next year we'll no longer be tied to school holidays so hope to get a bargain one way or another (may catch up with you then Daza!!)

I've not been to Plakias yet this summer, so no first-hand information. However I've been told that Elspeth is still the Olympic rep. Looking forward to meeting her in August.
