Just asked one of my PhD students from Ierapetra to translate, so...

"Ό,τι καλύτερο για τα Χριστούγεννα και την Πρωτοχρονιά! Θα τα πούμε από κοντά το 2016!"

All the best everyone!

Holiday Companies / Re: Olympic Loyalty Bonus (or not)
« on: December 04, 2015, 06:58:59 PM »
We've been doing the same these last few years.

Don't expect package-priced bargains (although looking at some of the quotes above, perhaps you might after all!) but we fly BA to Heraklion, taxi to Plakias, and then stay at Skinos, all for what we consider to be a good price, bearing in mind we can come and go as we please - not having to choose 7/14/21 etc nights - and stay where we please, without the coach transfer.

That said, if I ever go for longer than ~14 days I'll look at the public transport options, which I have found to be excellent o even the smallest Greek islands, partly to save some lolly but mainly to add to the holiday.

Well, wherever Sonja hails from, Harakas will be on our list for next May - love the place! Always a friendly greeting and good food.

Not French, don't think so at least, although is in Guide du Routard; but, is Sonja Swiss French? My wife is French and I'd say that Sonja probably is French-speaking Swiss, even despite my crap French!

Oh no.... Oh no no no no no! Pleeeeeeeeeeeeease!

Not your point entirely, Jackie, or even slightly, perhaps, I understand, but I feel a rant coming on.

No surfing without control.

There was an idiot on the beach a couple of years ago with one of those 'kites' that people fly above boards. Apart from nearly clobbering several people on the beach, getting it up (so to speak) and failing miserably when it came back to the beach, he made the water effectively inaccessible in the sense that 'you wouldn't this clown drowning you (wing comes down), or running you down (in the water)'.

Rant (justified?) over.

Plakias / Re: Early September date
« on: September 24, 2015, 01:19:31 PM »
This is so good to hear, Gorgona was the only Taverna which burnt where I really felt happy. Some of the others - shan't say which - had started doing the 'touting' thing outside, which has otherwise been essentially absent in Plakias, beyond saying 'hello and welcome back', and in a friendly manner, unlike many other Greek resorts.

Is that the same Manoussos that now runs a taverna behind the Alianthos? If so, he is still liberal with the Raki!

Just wondering how the re-building of the burnt-down tavernas is going, if at all?

Lucky you. Had our 'fix' for this year in May...
We have also found Stella a great place to stay.

I thought that it seemed quite busy when we visited early in May. Hopefully it will be a good year.

Plakias / Re: Sat nav
« on: June 02, 2015, 09:46:12 PM »
We used one to travel to Plakias this year, via a stop-over the NE of the island and then down the south coast.

Worked very well, even when the road had been washed-away near Spili and a diversion down a minor road (on which we had lost ourselves previously, pre-satnav!)  was necessary.
