Thank you for this review, very succinct. We have to expect and accept changes. Plakias will always hold our hearts what ever happens.

I love Antonis  place. Yes it is open in the evening and have never had to book. We like to sit out in the garden rather than n inside, more of a traditional vibe. The menu is limited but the meals are well cooked.

Is that with auto rentals? Whoever it is, it's a bargain at 23 euros a day.

Don't go with gold car, too many hidden charges. We have used Auto Rentals Crete and have been very satisfied. No hidden charges. Fully insured. Meet and greet at airport.

Yes, Stick of Rock, it does work. How appalling. People in the Chania area have lost their lives, so sad. What chance have we against the elements.

When we've hired a car in Plakias, we have used Alianthos car hire. They are quite good, but a bit pricey. I believe that there are other companies in Plakias, but lately we have used a car with pick up at the airport. Autorentals are very good. We pre-book on line.

Was on holiday on a different island in June. Only in one place did they serve olive oil in a sachet  cost 1. To be honest, there wasn't enough for my Greek salad! Everywhere else were bottles, no problem.

I know. I check it every day. It used to be such a lively forum. I joined almost from the beginning,  12th on the list. We were there last September  but sadly not going this year. I love to hear the updates, too,

We split our holiday last year,  first week Plakias where we've been for umpteen holidays  and the second week in Paleochora. Oh, dear! Although we did have super accommodation,  there it ended. I am afraid it left us  cold. It just wasn't for us. Maybe we have spent too many years in Plakias, but I know where we would choose to stay in future holidays.

We split our weeks last year Plakias/Paleochora. Really missed Plakias!

What a good, comprehensive read. Fab information not just for newbies, but us oldies, too. We first found Plakias in 1992, and although we missed a few years, made it up by having twice yearly visits occasionally.
