Where to go / Kallikratis road- question for Harribobs
« on: August 08, 2009, 03:04:13 PM »
We went there this year, well worth the drive. I bet its spectacular in the spring. If you go on You Tube and type in "liquid crete aradaina" theres some good videos of people bungy jumping off the bridge (they must be mad). Apparently its the biggest bungy jump in europe, and only 100 euros a go!!!

Plakias / Santa Maria Apts

Sorry for being sidetracked. The room we had had minimal but sufficient crockery, saucepans etc. There wasn't a bottle opener or corkscrew, and take a wooden spoon if you are planning on cooking. There was no hairdryer but there was an iron. Hope this is of help.

Yes we did the birmingham flight yesterday. Good flight times. We didn't mind the wind as when it didn't blow it was too hot. When it did blow we used the beach below "On the Rocks" as it is a bit sheltered and we didn't get sand blasted.

Just back from staying at the Santa Maria appartments. The air - con is 6 Euro per day. We didn't need it as we had force 8 winds. Hope you have got an appartment at the front as the ones at the back look straight at a breeze block wall, and some new appartments being built that are a bright terracotta colour.

Plakias / Draught Beer
« on: June 25, 2009, 03:50:12 PM »
Hi all
Let me clarify my question. I do not expect to get any english "real ale" in Plakias, same as i dont expect to get any english food. I like to try the local offerings . When i say draught beer/lager i mean that which comes out of a font on the bar, and not out of a bottle. It's too hot for english beer anyway, cant imagine it in a glass thats just come out of the freezer.
Hope that's stopped any confusion. Tuesday July 14th i will be having my first cold glass of draught/keg lager. Ya mas.

Hi all
Here in the U.K. i like to drink real/draught beer (no i havn't got a beard, and i dont wear sandals). Are there any bars in Plakias that sell draught versions of Mythos,Amstel etc as i find the keg and bottled versions tooooo gassy (burp, pardon) .I like the sound of the black beer mentioned on the forum, where is that available ?.

Hi everyone
The good lady would like to go to Chania whilst we have the hire car, can anyone recommend a good route to get there, and how long might it take to get there? As we will be making a day of it, any ideas of good places to stop on the way there or back?

PlakChat / Luggage Allowance
« on: May 21, 2009, 02:32:31 PM »
HI All
This is one of my pet hates. They must know how much weight the aircraft can carry allowing for fuel, cabin crew and food etc. This weight can then be divided by the number of passengers, to give a weight allowance in kgs per passenger. If you subtract the weight of the the person you are left with your baggage allowance. Simple???

Hi
Just recieved the rough guide map that was recommended by your good selves. It looks the ticket. Thanks for the advice.
John & Debbie

Well Done, We use the rough guide too, also use INSIGHT Map of Crete 1:225000 which is flexi and waterproof.

Hope Debbie is better map reading than my missus is

Hi Graeme
Debbie is in fact a crap map reader. Her normal excuse is "if i look at the map i feel sick". Are all women useless at map reading (not meant to be sexist)
Cheers
John & his ex Debbie (if she gets to read this)

Plakias / another question or two
« on: May 15, 2009, 08:24:02 PM »
Hi all.
Thanks for all the info so far. It does help with the planning, but at the same time its nice to not know everything and have some things to find out when we get there (does that make sense). After looking through the forum i cannot see it mentioned anywhere if there is a cash point or any where to cash travellers cheques. Help please. Also which are the best beaches within walking distance, and which are the best beaches to go to when the wind really blows.

We found some very good maps in the local shops last year, based on recent satellite data so they were accurate and up-to-date. Unfortunately, they were not laminated so the one we got cracked at the folds after the first day of use. The laminated maps, on the other hand, didn't show the small roads we all love to explore.

Hi
Thanks for all the advice so far. I think we will look for a map when we get there or hope we get a decent one with the hire car.
Cheers
