Recently returned after our first visit opinion

BRILLIANT

Just what we were looking for nice quiet holiday, no ye olde red lion pubs, no football shirts (well 2 in the whole 2 weeks) etc.

Plakias was a great resort, great scenery , beaches and walking, definitely going back, sooner rather than later, one of the best hols we have had and we've had some!!!

visited about 10 tavernas everyone excellent, good food, atmos and cheap good local wine in everyone. The most garlicy garlic bread I've ever had at the last taverna round the corner from the port next to the empty music bar, wonderful, also excellent pastry's for breakfast from the old lady near the town hall, Dave and Alison from the supermarket were a very nice couple

Surprised how reasonably cheap the food and drink were compared to Skiathos last year and other Greek resorts visited

Great to be accompanied by the geese at the far end along with Father Abraham from the Smurfs with his Thai bride and the very funny doughnut man

our room at the Kostas had seen better days, no glass or shutters on the bathroom window not really a problem for us but might have been to the couple in the next room whose balcony was right outside the window, out of courtesy always made sure the coast was clear!!!!
We stayed in room 58 and the guest info on the back of the door showed it wasn't the Kostas studios, possible overspill? also the cleaner wasn't the best, same bits of dust and fluff in the corners for a fortnight

The pool and  bar area were OK and drinks reasonably priced, apart from offering a free drink on arrival Kostas never acknowledged our presence when he was there, which wasn't very often.

The Knossoss trip was a waste of money 40 odd euros for a 3 hour coach journey each way stopping at every lamp post. approx. 1 hour on site then back in the bus to Iraklion, no time to look around on your own, even the guide apologised for the short duration on site

A would recommend getting a few together and hiring a car for the day because its probably cheaper

For a keen walker the Samaria gorge trip was fantastic apart from the suicide jockey of a coach driver on the way back, don't think the back roads were designed for coaches

Travelled with Olympic, flights with Monarch were OK, on time comfy etc. only down side was the drop offs in Rethmynon particularly the one at the far side of the port for 2 people

May well travel independently next time, the rooms above the Atlantis looked good, anyone stopped there?

Overall a brilliant resort and holiday I can understand why people on this site rave about it, visiting time and again

Thanks to all contributors on the site for all their info etc
