Plakias / first time

Hi Laura Jane,My girlfriend and I are both 20, so could be the youngst people that have been to Plakias on this forum. We have just returned from are first 2 weeks there last tuesday and loved it.
Bars i recommend for young people are: as mentioned the bar above Ostraco called the Balcony bar. Here they play music videos on a big screen, the music is ok Michael Jackson and some new UK chart music etc. The best time to go there is the weekends, it can get really busy then, this is when alot of the greeks go there also. It can have a good atmosphere. Another good thing about this bar is that you can sit out on the balcony and look down on the main street below and watch the world go round!

Theres also a good sit down bar up the road abit from balcony bar. Cant remember the name of it. Its next door to a car hire place and opposite the car park where the coach will drop you off. here they have funky seats and also play english music.

Plakias / FIRE

My girlfriend and i have just arrived back from Plakias today after 2 weeks there, and witnessed the fire. In the early hours of the morning on that Thursday i could smell smoke so i reckon that it was started during the night and spread when the wind picked up. We were staying at the Kostas Chrysoulla and had to be evacuated for the night to the Lamon Hotel, as are room was a mess with ash from the fire.
My girlfriend and i got chatting chatting to Yannis, one of the locals who works in the bar opposite the Souvlaki House and he believes that Albanians were to blame as them and the locals don't see eye to eye.

Where to go / Going out in Rethymnon

Just wondered is it easy enough to jump in a taxi from Plakias and spend the evening in Rethymnon? Also how much would this roughly cost in the taxi and how long would the journey take.

My girlfriend and I have booked to go to Plakias, staying at the Kostas Chrysoulla (sp) for 2 weeks in July. Basically i would just like to ask a few questions to find out a bit more about the place.

1. Which beach is the best in Plakias and is the water warm?

2. Is there watersports?

3. Is there many places to go for a late night drink after a meal. ie any bars people could recommend that plays modern music. I'm not expecting lively nightlife because i have been to lively places such as Kavos last year and also quieter places such as the Island of Samos. As long as there are a few good bars we will be happy.

4. My girlfriend would like air conditioning in are room, do they supply proper air conditioning or is it just a fan?
