Where to stay / This place doesn't look so bad.....
« on: June 27, 2010, 10:07:56 PM »
Looks lovely but precisely where is it - is it one of the new Plakia Apartments development? That's all that comes up with a web search, apart from studios at the other end of town. Do you have a web address for it?

Plakias / The Freddie connection
« on: June 19, 2010, 10:27:55 PM »
Just entering the second week of our fortnight's holiday, and have enjoyed the best weather ever, I reckon. Also just enjoyed our second meal at Vrisi, a newish restaurant up in Myrthios where Freddie - sorry, my mistake, Fredi, according to his football shirt! - everyone's favourite beach boy, spruces up in smart black to become Freddie, waiter extraordinaire, for the evening.  The decor  of this place is less traditional and spartan than, say, Myrthios's Platia, but I love the modern style and colours, and they have the comfiest chairs in town. The menu's nicely traditional but with a few different dishes, too, like baked haloumi, and all really well cooked and plentiful - the pastitsio has gone down particularly well with hubbee. And of course they have wonderful views over Plakias. So if you fancy a pre-dinner stroll up through the olive groves I can highly recommend Vrisi - it's just beside the water feature below the main road through Myrthios, with a choice of two footpaths leading down to it from the road, one to the right of the kafenion, one just beside Platia, or if you're driving up from Plakias there's a road off to the left just before you enter Myrthios. Or you can walk or drive up from Plakias through the olive groves by the youth hostel road.
I have pics which I can't attach when I'm not on my home computer - they'll follow!

PlakChat / Reading rooms

I just want to say well done to the guys on their new library! I met two charming young gents, Mike and Phil, who showed me round, and it's terrific. And it saves on loads of baggage weight, too. Well worth a visit, it's just past the youth hostel.

PlakChat / Where are we?

Wandering in the back streets in June we saw a house number on a gate post in the back of beyond and it made us wonder, do any of the streets have names?

Plakias / 2007 questions

Let's not forget the fruit shop by the campsite, your going to need a big beach bag Cottampat!! That's just for the melons.

george g...

This June a guy came up to the far end beach carrying a wooden tray bearing plastic tubs of prepared water melon and strawberries, an appealing idea but at five euros a pop a total rip-off! Apparently he was at Souda, too. Only saw him that once but he got no sales so I imagine he learned his lesson!

Where to stay / Plakias Bay Hotel

Thanks to all - we're now booked in for September. Thanks especially to Boxerlover for the hotel link - we hadn't found that one. We know Bouzouki already from the beach so I guess we'd better bring some munchies for him!

PlakChat / Beer, Beer we want more beer

Beer.  AAH- a most satisfying drink.

The pic in this tread is great, it makes me thirsty, and makes me dream . . . But it features a level horizon that only can be achieved by supporting the camera on the bar   (my experience)

In Greece I drink Amstel. Since it's brewed in Greece I consider it a local beer. Am I wrong? When I travel I always try out the local stuff, and normally I find something I like.

Nothing to do with beer but where are these apartments that the photo was taken? Myrthios? Nice view (apart from the clothes pegs!)

Latest news - there is no longer a new beach bar!!!  It would appear that permission had not been granted and it has now been demolished.  There's never a dull moment here.

Good news indeed - Thanks for the update

Yeehah! Thanks, Ali and Dave, you've made my day!

Plakias / Nudist beaches
« on: June 30, 2005, 11:12:15 PM »
OK, so pic one - I took it as we were leaving the far end beds. You know if you were leaving the beach and had to choose between taking the path along to the left to Paligremnos or going straight ahead to the parking bay on the road just down from the Plakias Bay Hotel? The beach bar is right there in the gap. Pic two is taken from that parking bay which is just before the road curves up the last wee bit to the Plakias Bay Hotel. Get it? Lying on a bed in the back row about five along from the far end shower, we were able to watch and hear them building it, that's how close it is. As someone said, it is so not good news.

Plakias / Nudist beaches
« on: June 29, 2005, 11:40:33 PM »
Continuing the topic of the beach bars, while we were there two weeks ago, construction started on the beach bar at the far end, between the dunes parallel to the parking bay just down from the Plakias Bay Hotel. The guy from Paligremnos came up and went nuts at the builder guys, so I don't think it's his doing. I also heard him talking to some Paligremnos guests about being nervous because every time he turned around there was another beach bar being built. And the day of the big barney, as we were leaving the beach two policemen arrived to talk to the builder guys as if there had been a protest about the construction, and again I'm assuming that complaint was made by Mr Paligremnos. Freddie from the beach started off saying it would just sell drinks, and then that extended to become maybe sandwiches, and maybe pizza . . .! It will spoil the atmosphere of the far end irrevocably as far as I can see. And talk about a blot on the landscape! I've got pictures which I'll try to attach. Wish me luck!

Just to add to the confusion over the new beach bars, there are actually two new ones this year, I believe, both built by brothers from Paligremnos.  One is small and immediately in front of Paligremnos and the other which is under construction now is right in front (i.e. on the sea side) of the sand dunes half way between Paligremnos and Plakias Bay Hotel.
[a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=3669\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a]
These development are slightly worrying. A beach bar isn't necessarily a problem but we like the far end as it has been until now.

Where to stay / Anna's Apartments-Mirthios
« on: May 10, 2005, 10:57:16 PM »
We have stayed at Anna's apartments several times over the last three years and they are absolutely the best! She's a wonderful landlady, leaving gifts of cakes, biscuits or fresh free-range eggs; they're a lovely friendly family, and the apartments are superb. Being above Plakias makes for an incredibly relaxing atmosphere, and the three restaurants in Mirthios are just great when you can't be bothered heading down the hill.
