Plakias / Mosquito in Plakias ?

We are off to Plakias next week, and we are wondering if there are many mosquitos.

Can anyone help ?
Thanks
Dave

Hi, We were there just over a week ago and we had one mozzie in the room.  Our fault really as we had left a balcony door open with a light on in the room.  Other than that we never saw another one.  As others have said it probably depends upon where your accommodation is and the proximity of standing water, etc.  We were never bothered when out on the town in the evenings.  However it's always best to be prepared with a mozzie plug-in device and some repellant just in case.

Plakias / First Timers - Just Got Back
« on: June 24, 2008, 12:14:41 AM »
Hello All.  We have just returned back from our two week holiday in Plakias and it was everything that we expected and more besides.  Thanks to all those who  gave us helpful guidance for the beaches, etc. The first week was distinctly cooler (relatively speaking) than the second but still very nice but the second week hotted up significantly.  We even had a few spots of rain as we walked down the track to Micro Am. beach whereupon Maria proudly announced that at her beach everyone gets a free shower on arrival!  The second week ended with a predicted four day gale blowing from the West it seemed, and it was really strong - strong enough for the Plakias beach sun embrellas to be taken down.  So over to Souda we went and it was relatively sheltered there and it was a good alternative to Plakias. Then the fire started - about a half mile into the gorge at the back of Souda the flames were pretty big and could be seen back at Plakias.  Still the fire chopper and plane provided something to look up at as we "cooked" on the beach!  Yes indeed Plakias is a "very special" place and it has totally won us over.  Will it change with the development?  Local opinion seems divided but on balance the locals we spoke to thought that it would not. We managed to speak to a few Forum members but if anyone spotted the two fifty something nutters body boarding in the big surf on Plakias far end w/c June 9th - then that was us!  Hopefully I've attached a few piccies correctly that show Souda and a view from the Plakias Bay Hotel.  Yes, we can confidently say we are Plakias Bay lovers and I'm sure we'll be back asap!  The PB Hotel was a great place to stay with Aris and Natasha being so very friendly and helpful and of course Bouzouki the hotel "security".

Plakias / Hiya - Newbies Here

Hello all.  We have just joined the forum as we have booked a couple of weeks in Plakias for mid-June.  We got a lot of useful information from you guys via the forum (thanks) and it really whetted our appetite for a trip.  We have been to a fair few of the greek islands (but never Crete) a few years ago and have done a spell of years visiting the Spanish islands (Fuerte, Lanza, Menorca, Formentera) and now fancy a change back to Greece.  Really looking forward to the break.  We couldn't get particularly good flights via Olympic so decided to book it all solo.  Got a nice Thompson flight (dep 07:00) and booked a car at the airport.  Not particularly looking forward to the drive but we'll get to see some countryside.  We're stopping at the Plakias Bay - nice and handy for the Far End - hopefully the hotel is ok, nice and simple and relaxing.  Counting down the days - Chris and Julie
