Sad to say I wont be going to Plakias again next year as well as many of my friends.  Missed this year as the cost of the transfer makes for an expensive holiday. Still on the plus side I have found another Greek Island ( Kalymnos) where Olympic include transfers.  Every cloud etc etc…

Just about the longest transfer time ever - over 4hours to get from Plakias to airport yesterday with Olympic with at least 10 pickups en route.  Worst ever and at the moment can't imagine wanting to do that journey ever again.  One couple decided to get a taxi which took 1hr 20 mins, however it did cost 110 euros!!!!

I will be in Plakias late September/early October so will leave purchasing my euros until last minute.  Won't hold my breath to get a better rate!!

Plakias / Tourist Event in September

A few years ago I was on holiday in Plakias late September when a big social event was held in the car park square.  The local tavernas provided food and drink and there was a Greek dancing display, live music and various other entertainments - a fabulous time was had by all.  Does anyone know if this was a one off, or is it a regular annual event.  I ask because I will be in Plakias late next month.

Thank you for sharing that info with the forum.  I had also noticed the transfer issue and in fact was considering Kalymnos instead of Crete due to the high cost of transfer from Heraklion to Plakias.

Many thanks for the directions.  I have been to Plakias before but tend to use the tavernas along the front overlooking the sea as I love the views - Gioma being a favourite.

Thanks for recommending.  I will be visiting Plakias in September and would like to visit.  Please could you be more specific about location as I am unfamiliar with the Cozy Café.  BTY I am staying at Kosta Chrysoula, where is it in relation to there.

Have booked for Plakias September 2017 with Olympic and transfers are included.  I made the booking last October with Olympic direct over the telephone.  I depart from Gatwick with Enterair, the Polish airline who I have always found to be very efficient.

Hi, Is anyone prepared to say how cheap the flights with TC and EasyJet are for 2017.  Just wondering if it may be worth going independent instead of with Olympic.  I fly from Gatwick and have been unable to access any good deals.

In May this year, transfer was 3.5 hours both ways.  However, we were offered comfort breaks at drop offs/pick ups en route.

I am just finishing my packing - on the 9.25am flight on 13th May from Gatwick with Olympic.  Expect to be be in Plakias early evening in tine to have my first ouzo and meal at Gorgona.  I am staying at KC, friend is staying at Irida Studios.  Look forward to seeing you all.

It's not looking very hot, apart from a couple of days, for my 2 weeks from 13th May.  Just hope it's not windy.

Depends what time Christmas lunch is ie: if early then toasted crumpets, if late then smoked salmon with scrambled eggs.  Happy Christmas to all and I look forward to being in Plakias May2014.
