Where to eat...or not! / Re: Traditional Greek Tavernas
« on: July 03, 2012, 08:17:34 PM »
Hi

In my experience I would keep away from food on show in cabinets, these are just tourist traps and most Greeks I saw eating out were mainly seated at taverna that had nothing on show, ie just the sign outside lettting you know it was a taverna, no bill boards or pictures.

Stick to the discreat ones if you want good food.

At Gioma it is difficult to choose a favourate as I did'nt have a bad one, but if I had to choose I would be torn between the  Beef Stifado and the Rabbit with cumin and saffran.  The seafood salad was delicious too.

There is also a nice restaurant in Selia village food was good there too, went for lunch and staff were very friendly.

Im getting hungry again...!

Where to eat...or not! / Gioma Taverna

I have just returned from a wonderful holiday in Plakias and was recommended by a local to eat in the Gioma taverna.  The food was fresh, tasty, and Manolis the owner was excellent. One night we went really Greek and ordered lots starters instead of a main meal and all were delicious.  It was so nice to just sit and eat so close to sea, our favourate table was closest to the sand as it is an open air terrace so you can look up to the stars.  |The prices were reasonable too. I will be back next year for sure!!!    Cant't wait. :)
