Arnaki - both the far ends require a bit of a scramble I am afraid. not sure I would want to do it with crutches. I much preferred Plakias to Arillas which I felt was full of english people - I like to get away from all things English other than Yorkshire tea!

Spottt - we were in Arillas in May - loads of nudists on the beach  - no sunbeds though at the far end just glorious sand. Have a great time - I love the greens of Corfu and May is a gorgeous time to go - full of wild flowers and fireflies. We will be in Paxos next May - can't wait

Yes this busy beach was what started off our search for the collective noun - there definately was a 'colony' on Micro Amoudi. Much preferred the emptier beaches.

Didn't think of plod - could catch on.....

Yes Ploppy we were so lucky with the weather - it was also the first holiday with no mossie bites.

I have got one question though - what type of trees are they on Plakias promenade -the ones that look like firs and had cream blossom? I admired them on many an occasion from my extremely comfortable seat in the Livikon bar.

I'm back after 14 days of gorgeous sunshine - feeling well rested and greeked out. Plakias was fantastic - didn't manage to do many walks as the weather was so hot - had fingers like bunches of bananas after the exhursion of the myrtos water mill walk - stunningly beautiful though. Really enjoyed the Irida apartments and the 40 min walk to Daminoni beach through olive groves. Violakis taverna in Daminoni was stunning. We spent most of our days alternating between beaches. the town beach in front of the football pitch had great snorkelling. Never seen so many naturists in a resort - had fun deciding on a collective noun - a 'colony' of naturists or maybe a 'dangle'.

Tavernas did not dissapoint either - I enjoyed the manioko as others have - great lamb dishes and a lovely family. Mouses spit roast pork gyros, beef stifado at Gioma. chicken and bacon souvlaki in Sifis, lamb chops in Apanemo, salmon and spinach lasagne in Tassilimos. I could go on.........

One of the best holidays we have had in Greece and we would love to return  in May to do some of those walks we did not have the opportunity to do this time. Not next year as we are booked for elsewhere but sometime soon.

Efharisto to all

Thanks to everyone who has answered my many questions over the past 10 months - mainly concerning FOOD!

We are jetting off tomorrow morning with everything packed, lists of places to eat, beaches to visit. walks to get lost on, even the weathers looking great.

I'll make sure I return the favour and report back in 2 weeks.

Where to eat...or not! / Re: Red wine?

Thank you two Mikes - now optimistic about the wine situation - maybe 2002 was a bad vintage as every taverna was the same :)

Where to eat...or not! / Red wine?
« on: September 18, 2012, 08:08:23 PM »
We went to Paleochora 10 years ago and LOVED the resort but found the local house red wine really disapointing, it was brownish in colour and tasted like sherry.

Is it the same in Plakias?

I am not a wine snob and usually drink the local carafe wine in Greece. Can anyone advise which tavernas have the best house red? Failing that can anyone recommend a reasonably priced bottle of red that is widely available in the tavernas. Smooth and dry.........

Plakias / Beaches around Plakias
« on: September 09, 2012, 09:16:29 AM »
Hello All - holiday is getting closer - now only 2 weeks away. On hearing the reports about strong winds - I imagine we could be doing quite a bit of walking using the Lance Chilton book. Souda Bay sounds a good sheltered beach - are there any others which would be sheltered when Plakias beach is windy? I do feel uncomfortable on totally nudist beaches, as I won't strip off, so beaches with either a mix or fully textile would be ideal. Also can anyone recommend a beach taverna in walking distance that does fresh calamari for lunch?
thanks
