We arrive on 21st July at 15;00 with Olympic. How long to get to Plakias? Prizes for the nesrest answer !

                                Barny.

I want to win the prize so I will say 3 hours 25 minutes from Heraklion to Dora's.

NB ( what is the prize ?????????????)

Heather.

Hello Heather,

I believe we had the shortest transfer with "Taxi 4 you". ...... 90 minutes from Heraklion to Plakias and within the same time back to the airport.
Yes, we paid 85,00 Euros for each transfer, but we had no stress and it was very nice to talk to Zack. We would do it again and again.

Kerstin

Hi Kerstin,

90 MINUTES ??. How lucky you are to have done that.

I think I have had dreams about that happening but always end up in the nightmare reality of 3 hours or more.

We have been transferred by taxi in the past but that was when there were no more than 4 people to go to Plakias. No such luck now as more and more people go there.

Love,

Heather.

Hi Heather,

yes, have a look on the web-site from Taxi 4 you and really he keeps the promise concerning the transfer.
We were alone and I arranged the transfer via email from Germany. We were very satisfied about the reliability.

I agree with you, such a long transfer as you had ... it was a nightmare and I am sure, you was very tired during the next day.

With love to you,
Kerstin

Hows Plakias looking this year.
Is it busy or is there a drop in the anount of people going.
is the extra vit-a-min-a guy still doing his thing.
Who's doing the sunbeds at the far end.
Hows the me harbour going.

Only two weeks to wait here, I can taste the Mythos.

Hello Davos,

as I wrote, during our stay early in May, Freddy was very busy and amusing on the beach. Together, we had a lot of fun.
Of course you can buy the donuts. Every day early in the afternoon he offered the "delicious" donuts.
Concerning the harbour, I believe, it will takes a lot of time until finishing this construction.

Enjoy your stay.
Greetings,
Kerstin

but how about us all becoming friends and allowing different opinions to emerge.

Hi and  Welcome to the forums.

I've been visiting these forums off and on now for several years and in all that time I have'nt witnessed any real nasty or personal attacks posted by anyone other than this threads original poster. So one could easily conclude that we are already friends expressing and allowing different opinions amongst those of us who contribute often, and also amongst those who readily offer advice to new visitors especialy those visitors interested specificaly in Plakias.

/........breathes deeply

My own rule of thumb for internet posting on forums is to never write anything to anyone or about anyone that first is'nt true and secondly if I would'nt say it to their face in real life then I would'nt hide behind a computer to say it on the internet.
Bullying on the internet is in some ways worse than in real life and it can be very upsetting for the person being targetted.
As to your question "Do we have to be right" ?  Of course not and if anyone cares to show or explain where I'm wrong then I'm willing to listen and reconsider my opinion.

/breathes deeply

Have you been to Plakias yet ?
If not I hope you have many happy hours perusing the many informative posts that members over the years have contributed

Graeme,
to tell the truth, I agree with you! I do not like attacks against anybody.

Cecile-Ines,
please read the posts/comments and I believe you will understand our opinions.

Regards,
Kerstin

We paid for each transfer 85 Euros and we were very satisfied with the service. He was very reliable and he drove very certainly.
Within 90 minutes we arrived in Plakias and in Heraklion.

Holiday Companies / Itinarary Change from Santa Maria-Olympic
« on: May 23, 2009, 05:14:36 PM »

Hi All,

I have just been informed that I have been moved from Santa Maria to Kostas Chrysoulla because  and I quote "..due to a reduction of our low season allocation.."

My holiday is in 4 weeks time (late June) and frankly we are a bit gutted by this...we have stayed at KC twice before many years ago...and we booked SM because it was out of town a bit and looked nice !

Anyone got any ideas on this....we guess that maybe they havent had many booking at SM and are moving everyone to KC so every one is in the same place..

But thats just my take on it..

Fom 1 very dissappointed traveller..

The upside is that we are still going to Plakias...but..

Not very happy today

Hi Robbie,

I believe you are right concerning the bookings for Santa Maria. It reflects the fears of the owners / tour operators. They have not enough
reservations for the new season. For instance, during the last years we stayed at Emilia and we mostly travelled with Neckermann Germany.
2 months ago I tried a dummy booking for Emilia and all studios/apartments were available. I have heard from our travel agency
that many tour operators cancel bookings for some hotels and "fill up" other hotels. Therefore we decided to travel "independent"
without a tour operator and we were lucky with our decision to stay privat at Castello.
During our stay in Plakias we talked to many people which we met during the last years and they all said the same "we are not sure about
the coming season". How many people will travel to Crete especially to Plakias?
I think you have to accept the changed booking and I believe the cancellation charge would be to expensive.

Nevertheless, enjoy your stay in Plakias.

PlakChat / Luggage Allowance

I see the latest trick that the airlines have is not to include any free baggage allowance at all, so you have to pay extra to check-in any hold baggage.

Greecemad,

sorry, I believe my English was not correct.
I did not meant the hand luggage and we had no problems with it. Neither in Germany nor in Crete nobody was interested in our hand luggage.
I meant our both bags/suitcases. On Condor flights 20 kg for each persons are allowed. If you have more than you have to pay 8 Euros per Kilogram.

We read the following information at the Heraklion Airport and I think it would be interesting for you:

1 kg excess luggage costs 8,00 Euro

Before we left Germany we got the same information from Condor.

On both airports (Leipzig and Heraklion) we met people which had to pay extra costs.

Good to hear Freddy is still in employment. Did you see if Emma was working?
But sorry to hear about your cat. I cry more over the loss of my cats than my relatives I'm ashamed to say
You too Ploppy. Did you get a new companion for your other little one yet?

Yes, we saw Emma. She works in the Livicon during the day and she looks very nice.

Hi Kerstin,

I am very pleased you had a good holiday in Plakias , as usual.

I will be there next week and expect the usual peaceful good holiday. Let's hope that this year I don't spend half my time in Hospital or at the doctor's office.

Will write again when I return.

Bye for now,

Heather.

ps. My older cat died. I will tell more later.

Hi Heather,

I am so sorry that Bengy died. I feel with you and I can remember on the death of my lovely black cat.

it's very hard to come home after having such a good time there,  but the good news is i'm going out soon!

tell us all about what you got up to and post some pictures!

chris

What can I tell you?

At first I tried to post some pictures but at the moment I have enough problems with my computer. I cannot use Firefox
and I was unable to reduce the size of pictures.

Really, we had a nice time. During our first week in Plakias it was very quiet and we nearly were alone on the beach,
maybe 4 or 6 couple spent their time at the Far End. Freddy was very busy and on our 2nd day on the beach we could use the sunbeds.
Sometimes the wind was very strong and cold but we never had a problem with it. Unfortunately, during the first week the sea was very
cold. I estimate 16 or 17 degrees but from day to day it was getting warmer.

Concerning the "Worrying development"... at the moment all works are stopped. We have never seen any construction worker or
machines. We have heard, the investor cannot sell the apartments or villas. Maybe due to commercial or market crisis.
Nobody invests money.

I believe the owners of the tavernas, bars, apartments, studios and so on are not sure about the new season. They do not know
what they can expect from the next months. How many guests will travel to Crete especially to Plakias?

We had no problems with the prices in the tavernas or in the supermarkets. We could not see an increase opposite to the last year.

The problem is the exchange rate Euro/Pound. During our stay in Plakias every evening we saw the exchange rate and
it was 1 Pound to 1,10 - 1,12 Euro. I know it is bad for you.

Now, enough for today.

Kerstin
