Prost!

Barny,
during the last years I have not seen so many Trabi's on the same place.
These pictures are very good but I would not recommend to drive such a car.
The gear change is very difficult.

Barny,

I found a website and I believe it could be the "safari tour": http://cms.trabi-safari.de/opencms/opencms...home/index.html

I am sure you have seen the most main sites of Berlin, but Berlin is very different to the most cities of Germany and very special to the
cities of East Germany. I live in Saxonia and I would recommend Dresden and our town Leipzig for your next travel to Germany
and of course it depends on your interests.

There were about six Trabbants and they all toured round the city. It was a strange sight to see!  not like the jeep safari in Crete. Can't get the picture to upload but I will keep trying. We thought the Brandenburg Gate was spoiled by all the tourist stuff, "have your photo taken with an American" "buy a souvenir Russian hat" ETC.
We did a walking tour which took about four hours but covered all the main sites. the guide was brilliant and had so much knowledge.
I definitely want to go back to Germany soon.
Plakias still will be priority !

                             Barny.

Barny, it is good to hear that you enjoyed Berlin.
Until now, I have never heard about a Trabant safari tour. I believe it would be in an interesting thing.
I was 20 years old as I have driven my first and the last Trabant. Really, it is difficult to handle such a car.
When I go to Berlin than it tooks me around 2 hours. At the end of the last year I went to Berlin/Schönefeld
because I had got a lovely Christmas present from my husband... flights to Nottingham and back with Ryanair.
I had a wonderful stay in England.

Steve, I agree with you. The amount of graffiti is a shame. Unfortunately, you will find it everywhere.
And mostly the police cannot find the graffiti sprayer.

Barny,

I am sure you will not see a Trabant because these cars are liquidated.
It is very seldom that we can see such a car on our roads.

Enjoy your stay in Berlin.

Holiday Companies / Car rental at the beginning of May

[We usually get our hire car from them, we have never had any problems at all, they are100% what they say they are. Last year we thought we would try and save a few quid/euros and got our car from Elite car hire, big mistake! You get what you pay for.

Many thanks for your answer. During the last years we hired a car from Anso Travel or we used the service from Taxi4You.
Unfortunately, Alianthos does not offer hiring a car for one day. They have offices in Heraklion and Chania but they do not
offer this service.
Both were very good! The reliability and the prices were reasonable but until now we noticed most of the prices are increased
and therefore we looked for an other option.
Now, less than 8 weeks until our departure... I am sure we will find a solution.

Hello to everyone!

Our flights and accomodation are arranged and now, we are looking for the transfer to Plakias.
Until now we checked the most known addresses and providers including taxi transfer.
We do not need a car for the complete holiday. We would prefer hiring a car for the day of our arrival
and probably for our departure.

Who of you know the following company: http://www.economycarrentals.co.uk/

Please have a look on this website because we are interested in your experiences or references.

We thank you very much for your help.

Hi Paul

All I can say we've flown Aegean twice now Xmas 2008 & November 2009, great airline, service first class & remember as soon as you board in Heathrow you are in greece, music, announments, food, amstel etc a good way to start your holiday. The wait in Athens is nothing it's a great airport, in fact we thought this time 2 hours wasn't long enough on the way home! & then greek all the way back to the UK. For an extra 10% I recommend it & the added bonus to arrive in Chania. Also your flight to Athens from Chania is an internal flight so no 2 hour check in. When we flew early on New Years day we stayed in Chania on New Years eve which was very enjoyable so another to bear in mind...

Rowena

Hi Rowena,

Thanks for this, I booked with Aegean in the end and it sounds like it was a good choice.

I read reviews on the web and the Greek food and Ouzo upon boarding sold it to me!

How long is a taxi ride from Chania airport to Plakias?

Paul

HI Paul,

I think you will enjoy.

Taxi about 1 hour 15, it's only about 12 km closer than Heraklion.

Rowena

Just for info, we've booked EJ -  Gatwick to Chania for 22nd August for 28days -  £330 for the 2 of us.....think this is still a reasonable price.

Thought we would try Chania for a change. Wonder if anyone else considers it less hassel?

We know the distance is much the same to Plakias as from Heraklion.

Dave&Les

If it would be possible we would prefer Chania.
Unfortunately, our airport does not offer anymore flights to Chania.
The airport is small and clearly arranged.
I am sure you will enjoy the travel from the airport because you will have a view over
bay of Chania. Hopefully, you will arrive in the daytime.

Where to eat...or not! / Favourite Eateries - 2009

All restaurants will have their off nights and most people will have their favourites but here's a snapshot of our experiences.
Best service: Siroko, and Manousses
Best food, overall: Harakas, and Siroko
Best atmosphere: Manousses
Nicest individual meals: Mushrooms a la creme with Rice at Harakas, Plakias Plate at Mouses, and Spicy Pork at Medousa.
Best value: Any of the set menus
Most disappointing, overall: Mouses and Medousa (I was lucky, Karen wasn't)
Best raki: Harakas (sadly we weren't offered any the second time we went there  )
Also tried and ok: Gorgona, Kri Kri.

I'm glad to say, in the main, we had excellent meals and service.
Is this list up to date? Some of the places we ate in 2009 were not that good. We are in Plakia early July so if any one can update it afore then, then thanks!

We prefer the Harakas Taverna. At every time we had the best food and service.
We never had any problems or reclamations.
Enjoy it!

That's what it's all about though , isn't it , so very well done. I think half the fun in the whole process is in the booking and finding jolly good value.
I am going to Tanzania on Monday night and as just staying in village rooms there and in Zanzibar was able to sidetrack lots of silly things like the dreaded 'single supplement'.
Looking forward very much (despite anti malaria meds) to the trip but as usual can't wait for May and Plakias. I hope Kerstin  will be in Plakias around 18th May,or will I miss them yet again ?.
Heather.

Hello,
Can anyone tell me if Emma is still working at the Livicon?
I owe her some tea bags from last year!
Thanks,
Paul209

Hello,

we were in Plakias this year at the beginning of May and we met Emma.
She worked at the Livicon in the daytime.
Really, she is a nice and attractive woman.
Freddy should be lucky to have such a woman...

Hello all,
I am just getting a few things together for my next visit to Plakias and I can't find my beach towel. Has anyone seen it? It's blue and has "Palm Beach " written on it and it is 20 years old?

                                             Barny.

Barny,

if my husband would look for such an old towel... my answer would be: "I believe it died in the washing machine."

Nevertheless, enjoy our stay in Plakias.
