Hi Everyone
We made our first trip to Plakias last june (far enders) and like everyone else loved it, we are returning on the 29 Aug for 2 weeks, on a morning flight from Birmingham anyone else ?
Now my question may be a daft one but the evenings in june were still hot, but do the evenings cool down in september as they do in Skiathos etc, in other words do I pack a jumper ?

Hope the nights are not too cool as I dont fancy taking jumpers! We dont go out until 19th September so you will be back home by then. On the plus side I suppose it might be easier getting to sleep if it is cooler.

We find that there is often a noticable drop in evening temperatures from about 5 October onwards. We usually need a jumper to sit out for evening meal after about that date. Can vary a lot of course from year to year.

thankyou everyone for your replies, (dont know about the waterproof clothing though) we just hope we dont get a windy 2 weeks as we had 3 days days last year a new experience for us.

Hope you have a lovely time, I'm sure the evenings will still be warm at the time you are going. We have been caught out with rain a few times but not until October so I think you can leave the waterproofs at home!

I'm setting off in a couple of hours!
I packed a couple of long sleved T shirts, and a waterproof - just in case. MMostly though, it's lightweight stuff - hoping it will be hot!

As the time approaches when we would normally be returning 'home' to Plakias, just wanted to wish you all happy hols. Our experiences have been that windy or not, warm or hot, we've enjoyed every holiday so far and probably each one more than the previous one. Hope to see some familiar faces in Sept. 2007.

I only had one chilly evening last year when I had to wear trousers and a sweat shirt and I actually felt quite cosy, but the rest of the time was ok.
I don't think you can gaurantee the weather at anytime of the year, so I always go prepared with warm clothes and wet gear, just in case

Just packing my souwester and thermals right now George Oh and some goose fat for good measure just in case the sea is cold

I've been caught in some unbelievably fantastic storms in Crete when they were least expected.
I was leaving Rethymnon one year in a convertible Punto (the yellow one ) with the top down, as you do, when the weather changed very quickly . The black cloud came over and the rain just fell.
It takes 30 seconds to put the top up on one of those things and by the time I got back in the car I was soaked.
The day, other than that was fabulous, hot, dry and sunny and the storm only lasted for a few minutes and I drove home quelching with the heater on full blast.
Since then I have always travelled 'Prepared'

Agree it's best to be prepared! Maree and I were there on 6th June and experienced our first Cretan June rainfall and grey skies in years of holidaying there, which lasted for a few days. And the wind in the final week 17th to 24th was ferocious, blowing the shade umbrellas into the pool and making beach life difficult. Fortunately we had the pool to lie beside and heal 49 odd weeks of toil in Bonny Scotland. Wet days meant more money spent shopping in Plakias, Mirthios and Sellia for wonderfully designed and creative goodies. So we still had a ball. But that's Crete.
Sadly, we may be looking at the North West area next year for part of our holiday because of building developments in front of the villa we have taken for the last few years near Plakias. There's something comfortable about Plakias though and who knows. Maybe we will manage both North and South coasts.
Wish i was in Plakias right now...it sort of has that effect on you!
