Hi to you all and thank you for the forum.
I recently booked a late deal to Plakias, but checked out the location from here before I did the deal.
What a great place Plakias is, we stayed at Kostas Chrysoulla, not disappointed, spot on (the barbie with wine was a nice touch).
Plakias was great to relax, nice beaches and interesting spots in easy walking distance. Not one bad meal in any of the eating establishments, and everyone so friendly.
Walked up to Mythios (not sure of the spelling), nice meal overlooking the area, but missed the road back down on the way back (too much wine I think), so walked back in the dark through the olive groves, which was an experiance!
Just checking out when the best time is to return, and what is the best route would be (package or organise myself, and is the YH ok my son wants to know), maybe you could help me on this one?
Have put a few photos on //batty.batcave.net, which you are welcome to view.

That is a super set of photos - brings back lots of memories and makes my countdown to the end of September seem shorter. No personal experience but everybody on this forum and elsewhere speaks very highly indeed of the YH.
We travel independently now. I'm not going to argue whether it is cheaper as everybody used to do when I went via package - I thik it depends on season, numbers transfers and many factors which may vary considerably with every party. One thing we can say though is that you can be confident about any arrangements you make with the locals at Plakias - you need have few worries about their reliability and care.

Thanks for your thoughts John!
I know what you mean about care....we all found the service to be good everwhere in Plakias, at one local restaurant Avra (which over looks the bay) we stopped by for breakfast on a number of days it was great value, and we even got a complementary raki... They also did some really good main meals, and had a wide variety of crepes!
On our last day I had asked where the best place was to buy local raki. The waiter/owner of Avra offered some of his own, emptied a freah bottle of water, filled it with raki, and gave it as a 'gift'...a small gesture, but what more could you say
Another good restaurant in the bay was Restaurant Harakas, the service was great, and the people there were really friendly - it was nice to see the food was cooked outside infront of you.
The village of Myrthios is definitely worth a visit too, as the restaurants up there (especially the first one you come to if you walk up from Plakias) are also really good.

Hello Ian,
I'm really surprised (but happy for you) that you got a late deal to Plakias. I thought they booked very early. We recently booked for October 2007 with Kosmar at Kostas Chrysoulla and were told there were only two rooms left (Kosmar ones that is- Olympic has more rooms there than Kosmar).

Hi Mike
I can understand why you are surprised at a late deal, as having been there, so am I. Infact we booked for six people about 10 days prior to the trip via Thomas C, although it was an Olympic holiday. But there was a few other couples that had also booked late.
Having said that, everything ran totally to schedule, so I was more than happy with Olympic, only points that I would note is the holiday was advertised as 7 nights, but only had six in the appartment, and the return flight to Luton was via Glasgow which took six hours. A future visit to Plakias deserves a longer stay, but for the price we could not fault or complain!

Hi Ian
Did you get a night flight??
That's one of the big holiday company cons . By the time you actually get to your room, it's early morning, perhaps 5 or 6 o'clock, and you have to make a decision, do I stay up and spend the rest of the day like a zombie or get some kip and miss half of your first day ? And that's classed as your first night!
Get an early morning flight Ian, I fly at 09.00am and have enough time when I get to the room to get organised, do the shopping for the necessaries, get a bite to eat and a few bevvies after, and still get to bed at a respectable time . OK it usually incurs a suppliment (the con), but I believe it's worth doing.
Hope you enjoy your longer stay the next time!

Hi Ian
Sorry to hear of your shortened holiday due to the night flight. It's a long way to go for a taster, but you were obviously bitten and had a great time and can't wait (like the rest of us) to go again!

That's a disadvatage of getting a late deal- most are for 7 days, filling in the gaps in their bookings. I agree with George re. night flights as you lose a day (significant for 7 days hols). It's well worth paying extra for a day flight IMHO.
