If i remember correctly Villa Artemis is behind and in between the plakias bay and the peligramnos, a few minutes to the beach, the peligramnos taverna (and beach bar), probably 10-15 minutes walk into town down the promanade!  it looks very nice

however...reading ali and daves comment further down, these are not the apartments you were looking for:D

I must agree with you George.
It is one of the best I've seen.
All the information is there and, remarkably, in perfect english.
It should be used as a model for anyone else in the same business.

These two villas are the ones recently opened by Fillipos (ex-meltemi) on the way to Aretousa and Dora Studios i.e. behind Ostraco.  Here's the web address:

http://www.villalkisti.gr/artemis.htm (http://www.villalkisti.gr/artemis.htm)

They look really nice and Fillipos is there every day looking after the properties.

We stayed at the Artemis 3 years ago. Had the most spacious studio which was clean and bright and the owner used to give us fresh eggs for our breakfast.   The downside was there were no views (we were on the ground floor) and the walk up the hill at night was a killer.  If you have a car it won't be a problem.

Confusion is creeping in to this thread.

There is studios Artemis which is where Chris (Harribobs) said and there are the villas Artemi and Alkisti which are where Ali & Dave said they are.

To sum up:

Studios Artemis are up behind the Paligremnos at the far end (south-eastern) of the bay.

The villas Artemi and Alkisti are in the middle of town behind Ostraco.

There is more information in this thread (http://forums.plakias.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=602&st=0) including independent opinions and pictures.

By the way, the Villa Alkisti and Villa Artemis website (http://www.villalkisti.gr) introduction to Plakias says "In the centre of the area of Gialia, and near to the ruins of the Minoan town of Lamon, few fishermen built a small settlement, Plakias."

I've never heard of a Minoan site with this name and Googling 'minoan lamon' only brings up one reference, to the above website.

Anyone know more about this?

that phrase must be used in every pensions website!

here :- THE ANCIENT CITIES OF CRETE (http://www.kairatos.com.gr/myweb/ancientcitiesknossos-oios.htm) it lists the cites and includes "Lamon. Plakias Agiou Vasileiou."

but it's news to me ( old news maybe)

Thanks Chris, I found that one too but those four words are all the information it gives.

I also found another few references which seemed to indicate that Lamon was on the site where Plakias now stands but that was as far as I got.

Anyone else know more?

Yes, likewise John.  There doesn't seem to be as many going at the same time this year.  Not long to go now 6 weeks I think.
