Hi, I've just booked my first hol in Plakias......I Greece, esp Crete so I'm hoping I will have a great time. Anybody got any tips for where to go, what to do etc?....I'm only there for a week,....and I'm 22 by the way. Also wondered if anyone else here will be there from the 15th-22nd August?

				hi laura

				Hi Laurajane
 Welcome (Nice name)
Your going to get a lot of suggestions for places to go in Plakias so I won't bother.
Check out the 'Where to go' threads if you want to see more of the area.
Hope you enjoy your stay, unfortunately I won't be there until the second week in September so won't be able to show you around.

				Hiya,

 Welcome to the forum.

It depends on what you want to do really. Do you just want to chill out and sample the local tavernas, bars and sunbathing spots? or do you want to go further afield on excursions or hire a car or go hiking?

Being lazy so and sos we tend not to stray far but that may change this year (yeah right!).

As for who will be out there at the same time, check out the forums calendar, link is at the top right.

 Cheers,

 Paul

thanks, sounds like I'm going to like it.....good food is def high on my agenda....I love my swordfish!....good cocktails too for that matter!...I'm actually going on hol with my mum and my stepdad for the first time in 5 years cause my friends are all being miserable this year and I can't persuade anyone to go.....never mind!...I have my own apartment and am quite capable of entertaining myself so I'm sure I'll have a great time! I'm an arty type (just finished a design degree) so anywhere with beautiful scenery for drawing/ photographing is of interest to me...I once based a whole project round Greece at uni!

Although I very much like authentic Greece and would never dream of going on some awful 18-30's type hol...I do like my nights out!..So I'll be sure to check out that bar!

I usually try to go to places in Greece that the Greeks holiday themselves....It sounds bad but I don't like to be surrounded by English people and English catered bars. Was just wondering....is it mostly Englsih people here?.....I've done my research and it only seems to be olympic and kosmar that go here....which is normally a good sign

By the way Steve.....far ender?......Am I mssing something?

Sounds like Plakias may just be for you.

Far ender: The main Plakias beach has a clothing optional area at the far end (i.e farthest from town).
A lot of the forum members here like to hang out there as it were.

I don't personally and apart from being called a

There are a number of English visitors, a lot of them return year after year as you may see from this forum. You also get a number of Germans & Czechs and to a lesser degree French and Italians.

I wouldn't say any of the bars pander to the English. The vast majority of people that go there want the authenticity and not fish and chips and a pint of lager.

Let us know if there is anything else you want to know.

 Cheers,

 Paul

				Hi, Laurajane

Am I mssing something? Only your clothes as a 'far ender'
It is also the best stretch of beach.

We will be in Plakias during your stay. We arrive on the 15th (Flight from Gatwick)and are staying at the Lamon. (Just to warn you - we are probably closer to your mums age group).

 Where will you be staying?

 Pete

ahhhh, the lamon...nearly went there.......I am staying at kostas chrysoulla...should be good! I see, nudist beach!....you get them everywere.....been on them myself.....not naked mind!...because like you say, they are always the best bit of beach....this place sounds a bit like Makrigialos, SE Crete....it also has a huge fan club of people that keep going back there cause they love it so much

Don't even think about it Laurajane, in my opinion there is no comparison between Plakias and Makrigialos, I had my 2 weeks there and hated it. I've been going to Plakias almost every year since 1995 with the odd 2 weeks in Makri and I know which one I prefer.
It's up to you to make your own mind up, it 'sounds' perfect for you, we can't say that you are going to love it there but we will be surprised if you don't.

Get back to us with your opinions, good or bad they are always welcome.

 Hi Laurajane

I think your going to love Plakias from what you've said your after. Try out the Beach Bar first one on the way to end the beach. Doesn't get busy until after 11 but does get a fairly young mainly greek crowd in. You will also find that during August there will be alot of Greeks holidaying in Plakias.

Also the main beach is great but do explore as there loads of other nearby beaches Amoudi, Souda, Damouni etc.

I first started going to Plakias when I was 24 now i'm 35 and have been 20 times 21 in Sept 06. Have fun you'll love it.

really George? I actually really liked Makrigialos....what was it you didn't like and what are the differences?....I know I ask a lot of questions!!!....also guys......its just Laura....it wouldn't let me have Laura so I had to add my middle name......thanks Carl and Rowena....will def try Beach Bar

-
If you like a very beautiful beach where there are only few people, almost all from Greece, you should try Rodakino, about 12 Km from Plakias in direction of Sellia. If you will rent a car to go there you will remember the wonderful views from the road. When you arrive in Rodakino go down to the sea and when you will be at the sea go right until the end of the road (about 1 km). There there is also a very good restaurant, Virgin Mary, if you go there try octopus salad !!!!!!!!

I think I was there about 8 years ago so it might have changed.
We stayed at the Miramar at the eastern end behind the bakery. Great apartment on the beach (stones)!
The odd thing about it that I didn't like was the fact that there was no walkway along the beach because all the bars/shops etc all backed onto the beach and the only road/walkway was inland.
We spent most of our time in the 'ajoining' village at the western end of the strip, very cosmo.
The beach in comp. to Plakias doesn't exist, it was small and had to be put back where it should be every month because the tide washed it away.
The big hotel east out of the village up the hill and the surrounding area could have been anywhere, there was no Greek atmosphere.
The best thing about it... the jeep, it got us out of there.

 you did ask!

check out Google Earth it will give you a really good feel about Plakias.

Ask as many Q's as you like that's what we are here for 'Talking about Plakias'

Fair enough....I really liked the people there though...so friendly....and so many free nibbles everywhere.....you could go without buying food the amount of free nuts, fruit and starters we had. I remember Miramare...great position.

Question from stepdad....can you hire wind surfing stuff....and any idea of prices?

Will def try Virgin Mary.....not sure about octopus though

also...please tell me the transfer from Heraklion isn't too horrendous??....and is 2 and half hrs like it says and not about 4!
-
				laura

there's no facilities for hiring wind surfing gear in Plakias, but there is in the next bay along ( called Damnoni bay)

the last report we had ( from Mike) said the transfer times had improved and were 2 hours 45mins..still long enough tho eh?
-
you're kidding?...it says in he losmar book it has windsurfing.Thats one of the main reasons we are going. How far away is the bay that does do windsurfing?

-
you're kidding?...it says in he losmar book it has windsurfing.Thats one of the main reasons we are going. How far away is the bay that does do windsurfing?
The wind conditions are very often not suitable for beginners. Some of the locals have become extremely good, and only go out when the surf is up. They also go far enough out so they do not annoy swimmers. Damnoni is a 25-30 minute walk from Plakias, but the wind is equaly strong so be careful.

Yes Laura we have seen a few people get into trouble as they are too tired to get back into the bay, but the wind surf school do keep an eye on you & they have a boat. However it's much safer not to have to rescued in the first place!

oh dear!...I think I might just not tell my step dad this....let him find out the bad news when we get there! How windy are we talking?....the sea is okay for swimming isn't it?....I mean we're not talking....sand being blown in your eyes all day?

It happens, Plakias is known for it's wind, most of the time it's just a breeze and you will be thankfull for that when it's 'HOT' but it can get a bit silly at times, and yes sandblasting can be included.
 Don't worry about it!!
The sea is fine, 90% of the time it's like a millpond

				Hey Laura

Suspect that there won't be enough young people around from our Forum for you to socialise

Suggest you hang around in Nufaro (next to the butchers on the prom) and meet some folk from the youth hostal. They are usually an interesting and sociable international crowd and may be able to point you in interesting directions

The seasonal barmen are often young Australians

If you go to the youth hostal site you may be able to contact Emma before you go ... she is English and spent some time in Plakias last year !!

 Good Luck

Hi Laura Jane,My girlfriend and I are both 20, so could be the youngst people that have been to Plakias on this forum. We have just returned from are first 2 weeks there last tuesday and loved it.
Bars i recommend for young people are: as mentioned the bar above Ostraco called the Balcony bar. Here they play music videos on a big screen, the music is ok Michael Jackson and some new UK chart music etc. The best time to go there is the weekends, it can get really busy then, this is when alot of the greeks go there also. It can have a good atmosphere. Another good thing about this bar is that you can sit out on the balcony and look down on the main street below and watch the world go round!

Theres also a good sit down bar up the road abit from balcony bar. Cant remember the name of it. Its next door to a car hire place and opposite the car park where the coach will drop you off. here they have funky seats and also play english music.

 Enjoy

Refreshing comments Laurajane, for someone your age, although I suspect most of us have been through that phase. I've done 3 club 18-30's to all the obvious places but one tends to settle down after a while, especially when they discover places like Plakias.
 Hope you enjoy your stay!!!

well I used to go to spain before I was old enough to argue. I used to go with a friends family that liked all the usual touristy airtours type places....eating MacDonalds..that kind of thing. Then when I was about 15 I went to Greece with my Dad somewhere in Corfu that was tiny and unspoilt. Deciding I loved Greece I then went to Sidari snd hated it.......ever since then I am very fussy where I go!

Hey Laura, just do what these guys say hang around Nufaro (otherwise known as Joe's, tell Joe Chris sent you) at night but don't get there before midnight otherwise it's dead.  I just got back from Plakias a week ago stopping at the hostel and pretty much all the younger ones (and some of the older ones) end up there at night.  Shame your going in August as I'm not due to go back till October.  Sure you'll have a great time tho and Damnoni beach is about 1/2 an hour walk from Plakias and its a nice walk as long as its not too hot.

I couldn't agree more Georgie - I do sometimes get off the subject but hope my humour was not wasted on you  - I am intrigued to know how I got labelled "posh" though.  Maybe it is because I can use a knife and fork together

Absolutely no malice intended - its the humour that keeps me going and breaks the tedium of my days in this hell hole of an office - as for the knife and fork - well now I know where I have been going wrong.  Chris will tell you he took me off the shelf and dusted me down and I would be nowhere without him   Yeah right  - I'm sure he will elaborate if called upon to do so
-
Hostel's great, loads of really friendly ppl from all over the world that some how manage to find it, was full for part of the time we were there.  During the day tends to be more chilled out with ppl just hanging around the hostel chatting or sun bathing or heading down to the beach, it's basic but its really a case of what more do you want really.

Not sure about cocktails but the hostel has big mythos for just over €1 and Joe's does a white russian for €3 or an Ouzo for €2.

Never heard of Tolon, where is it?

Fav colour, used to say red but I'm changing my mind to green these days..

One of the topics for discussion on the 19th, I sure I won't be dissappointed, looking forward to meeting you both.

sounds good Chris...can anyone use the bar at the hostel??........blue is the colour.........closely followed by blue/green.

 Tolon is in the Pelopponese.

Afraid not no because it all goes on your tab which you pay off when you leave the hostel.  Of course if you talk to someone at the hostel there's a good chance you could put it on their tab

Might visit Tolon at some point but not this time as i'm only there for a week.  Keep on saying i'll have to go see a few other places while i'm there but never get around to it.  Might go for 3 weeks next year that'll give me plenty of time to go.
-
the only reason I asked was that I remember quite a few back packers in Tolon....although...you probably aren't a back packer...I  think I just assumed that from you staying in a hostel. Where else have you been to in Greece then?

				Hi Laurajane,

I have just got back from my first time in Plakias, and i had a superb time, and will definately be returning. I am around your age (24), and didnt want to leave!!
The restaurants are superb, some of the best that i have been to!
Re: your question about costs..........it is really cheap......the average main meal is around 6 - 7 euros..........
a large Mythos (BEER   - large over there is more than a pint!!!!) is 2.50 euros......i ate out every lunch time and evening, and hardly spent a thing!!!!

I also stayed at the Costas -Chrysoulla, and it was spotless......was very impressed of the cleanliness of the rooms.........got a nice little bar whichs sells cocktails as well!!!!

A must is the 'Crete Bar-B-Q' held at the Costas-Chrysoulla......15 euros for as much food and wine as you like......as well as live crete music and dancing!!!!!

Each room has an air con unit, which costs 5 euros a day, and is DEFINATELY worth it!!!!!!

As for the wind........the first 4 days was gusty....the last 3 days was just a gentle breeze......

 Cheers

 Rich

thanks Rich!..you've pretty much answered all my questions there!!!...I know I'm gonna love it!...that BBQ sounds good!

In the past I've sometimes been a bit disappointed with Kosmars trips.....like the fact you have to pick up people from miles away on a really long coach trip to get where you are going. Im going with Olympic this year, can you reccommend any trips worth going on or is it best just exploring yourself?

 Thanks again

 Hi Laura

We don't go by package so don't know about trips. If you go exploring yourself one of my favourite days out is Loutro. You drive west along the coast road through Selia, Rodakino onto Hora Safakia, the scenery is beautiful. At Hora Safakia you can enjoy breakfast & then catch the ferry to Loutro ( leaves at 10.30 ), Loutro itself can only be reached by boat or on foot & is a lovely peaceful whitewashed village ( like a toy village from the ferry ) with great Taverna's serving excellent lunches & lovely clear water. You have a choice of ferries on the return we normally catch the 4.15 meaning with drive we get back to Plakias by around 6.30pm. ( you need to leave Plakias arounnd 8am so not to be rushed, later if you don't have breakfast in Safakia ). Also there's never wind in Loutro!!

The one & only trip I have done is Samaria Gorge well worth it but it is a very long tiring day.

Let us know if you want any other ideas

 Rowena & Carl

thanks! I was considering Samaria gorge but I hate long trips and we are only there for a week so maybe not this time.

thanks! I was considering Samaria gorge but I hate long trips and we are only there for a week so maybe not this time.
Imbros gorge we think much nicer and we do it twice each visit. Twice because we park at the bottom, walk up, have lunch at the top and then walk down. All easily done on a leisurely day from Plakias. The organised coach trips tend to make a day of it by visiting Frankocastello (not our favourite place) on the same trip.

If you are only staying 1 week then I would say that over and above the beach you have about 10 days at least things do do around Plakias. You can walk the two gorges which lead into Plakias, you can walk to Prevelli (All or part), walk to Rodakina or part way there (superb) Trips (mainly on foot) of interest and beauty in the immediate vicinity should keep you fully occupied for that period. I would leave the more distant trips for your return visit which is bound to happen and most likely over a longer duration.

Yes -i'd agree that the Imbros gorge is worth doing as it is so convenient to park at the bottom. Also - the gorge - Agios Antonios close to the Amari valley. here you park at the top so the walk back is uphill but it's not at long as the Imbros, very pretty and with a good, simple taverna close to where you park.

Check out the 'where to go' thread Laurejane, it might give you some ideas for day trips.

Shame on you Haribobs!   - An experienced member like you should know to do a search - I gave some details back in December, in the topic 'First time to Plakias'. Not sure if the links in the original post still work. Here is the text reproduced below.
As promised, more info on our day trip to the Amari valley. We drove out through the Kouraliotis Gorge, then took the right turn through Frati to the main road. Turn right towards Spili then left at Mixorouma to Lambini and Karines and Patsos. Around patsos you will see signs to Agios Antonios - a picturesque gorge with a cave chapel originally used by a sect worshiping Hermes. The walk down through the gorge is worth doing. You can walk right to the end but it gets quite demanding the further you go and, of course, if you are in a car, you've got to walk back up again! There is a cafe at the Patsos end where you can get a drink and freshen up. We got to the gorge around 10am. If you leave it until lunchtime, you you might be sharing the place with one or more coach parties. From there we continued on the road through Pantanassa and Voleones. Turning right at the main road takes you to Apostoli. Keeping left, you will see signs to Thronos on the left. We found the place fascinating. We parked at the church, noticing the outline of a larger building that once was where the road is now. The church was locked but walking further into the village, there is a house on the left with loads of plants or other greenery. The old man there has the key and was more than happy to open the church for us. the whole of the inside is painted with biblical scenes. A walk round the back streets was interesting as well. If you walk past the keyholder's house, on the left you see a concreted road/track leading up, signposted to the ancient site of Syvritos. This leads to a path upwards, passing underneath the largest fig tree I have ever seen (we were lucky enough to visit mid. Sept. when they were ripe). The track is long but easy enough to follow. You don't see the excavated site until you are right at the top but the view from there is fantastic. From Thronos, we followed the road round the Amari valley, passing through Amari on one side and Meronas on the other. Not sure whether a direct link will work, so here is a link to my MSN Share Space - go to Photos and select the Arari Area, Crete album. MSN Share Space. You will also find the Crete TourNet site useful for maps and info. Crete Tournet.

Hi Guys......I had a fantastic time in Plakias......I have so much to tell you I don't know where to start ! and my internet keeps disconnecting every 2 seconds! ....I went to Damnoni which was lovely, Ammoudi.and the next to beaches round from Damnoni on the scooter. I thought the people were all lovely as they always are in Greece! The main thing I noticed was how cheap is was to the rest of Greece...and the other parts of Crete I've been to! I spent a lot of time in Ostracos...I also liked the bars on the beach.

Kostas Chrysoulla was nice and well equipped but a bit too big for my liking...I think if I went again I'd stay somewhere a bit more small and freindly.....didn't like the crowded pool area but loved the pool next door with the bar......also it seems I had some clothes nicked by the cleaners but hopefully it is being sorted!....went on a boat trip to the lagoon place and went on a pedalo through the mountains....I thought it was very beautiful there.

The first half of the week was incredibly windy, it was actually blowing me off my feet! But apparently although its windy, its not normally that windy!

Food was nice and V cheap although I've def had better food in other places. To be fair though we tended to stick to the tavernas on the front as they were lively but Im sure if we were there longer we'd have ventured further!

Had a particularly good meal in Mousses/ muses one night and liked the staff....esp the old guy with the bills!

Also had a great meal in Sofia, my mum had chicken wuth garlic and something in a pot that was fantastic and I had pork in a pot with vegetables. Staff v. friendly too.

Best of all I managed to get my fave cocktail mojito in Platia...they also invented something similar for me in ostracos..minus the mint but 10 times stronger....all in all Fab hol.....def one of my favourites!.....needed more time there!

Also...like the English couple in the shop near Kostas...selling amazing dry white wine in water bottles!

Also there was a nice lady staying in a room near me (44) in Kostas who had been there the week before us and the week we were there who said she went there all the time and was hoping to buy a house there.....she had a bad foot or ankle......I thought afterwards she might be one of you.....so if you are ...reveal yourself lady!

Hi Guys......I had a fantastic time in Plakias......
 (CUT!)
 Did you enjoy your nightlife?
And what was your favorite place to go after dinner?

PS: I think U have to change your "Last time in Plakias" date
-
Hi Alex...I did enjoy the nightlife!...I love the way in Greece you get a mixture of all ages everywhere....everyone wants to have a good time! Ostraco's was probably my fave cause it was the liveliest! Wat about you?....where do you like?

 ops! I forgot... Welcome back!
well... I've never been in Plakias since... next October! Or maybe last days of September...I have to decide!
I want to do about 2 weeks in Crete, but have still to book my flight...
Third time in Crete, so no tour operators for me! Then I'll rent a car and... go!
First week probably in Matala, then Plakias.

Although I don't like discos too much, I'm looking for nice bars/locals to spend some after-dinner evenings (errr.. nights ok?!   ).. I like places with good music to listen while drinking some good cocktail.. (yes after the raki experience)
Do you know if is it still alive the Hexagon?

I think I'll have very nice evenings in plakias, at the Ostraco and sorroundings
I'm also tried to go to Rethymno (have u been?) for a crazy night (just to do something mad), hoping not to fall down to the gorge by travelling in Crete's "roads" at night...
but I think it's quite a main road to Rethymno, so don't worry particolary about it...

 Sorry for my english!
 Bye, Alex
-
so when was your last time in Plakias Alex?.....Im not sure about that Hexagon place...I don't remember seeing it. Nufaro's always had a cheap cockatil list outside but when I went in there they didn't have my mojito and couldn't make it for me....and after drinking that all the time the others are all too sweet!

They have a good cockatil list and very comfy seats in Platia at night time....the only thing I would say is that the DJ....although young, plays some really dodgy old music.....and I don't mind old music....but we are talking the really bad old compilations!......so have your cocktail and move on!

I think going to Rethymnon would be a good idea a night, one of the waiters tried to convince me to go with him on the saturday night and although it sounded great I declined cause I know what they are like....but yeah, if you are getting a car, and if you are going with mates you should go and explore! I have a whole booklet full of contact numbers for accommodation in Plakias if you want any of them.....I picked it up in the doctors surgery!

 ciao for now!

 Hi Alex

We would definately recommend a night out in Rethymo. We normally stay there one night the best time to go is the nights the main shops stay open as it's really buzzing with Greek people ( and of coursr Tourists ) there are great bars & restaurants. I think I remember you saying that you were going with your girlfriend? If so Avli in Rethymo is perfect for a romantic meal it's a courtyard garden & serves the best food I've ever tasted in Crete it is fairly expensive but a meall for two with drinks is still good value compared to a meal of the same standard in England & worth it because of the setting. Also Vasilis bar behind the Rimoundi fountain is a great relaxing people watching place ask to speak to Vasilis if you go & tell him we recommended it Rowena & Carl with the Vespa from England & the Dobermann. Let me know if you want more info.

Thank you very much, Rowena & Carl... Yes, maybe I have one or two questions more for you:

We would definately recommend a night out in Rethymo. We normally stay there one night the best time to go is the nights the main shops stay open as it's really buzzing with Greek people ( and of coursr Tourists ) there are great bars & restaurants. You mean that you rent a room for one night? Is it so scary the road from Plakias to Rethymno (and return) at night?

I think I remember you saying that you were going with your girlfriend? Yesss   my sweet girlfriend
It's our third trip to Crete (last year we were in Rodhes). The first was in east part (Elounda, Agio Nicolaos... seen also Chrissi Island   )
The second time, 2 years ago, we went to the west side... Chania, Kissamos, Balos, Falasarna... and then down to the south-west: Elafonissi, Paleachora... I think very beautiful places, most of all Balos (we survived to the "road"   ) and then Elafonissi.

If so Avli in Rethymo is perfect for a romantic meal it's a courtyard garden & serves the best food I've ever tasted in Crete it is fairly expensive but a meall for two with drinks is still good value compared to a meal of the same standard in England & worth it because of the setting. Also Vasilis bar behind the Rimoundi fountain is a great relaxing people watching place Thanks for the tips! But you've not mentioned Zisis, I've heard to be one of the very raccomended taverna and the "most famous" one... don't you know it?

Although we like tipical "greek taverna" (no tourist, only cretain people at the tables...! you know what I mean   ), we also want to have a romantic meal one evening in Rethymno  , so, for that evening, don't mind too much about the prices.. the important is the atmosphere and the good quality of the place.

Obviously I mean the food quality with a beatiful place to look... that not always go together in Crete!
In fact, sometimes you see very beautiful places, but very low quality of the food... and you go to a very "poor" external aspect taverna but you have great delicious food! It's quite difficult to find both together

ask to speak to Vasilis if you go & tell him we recommended it Rowena & Carl with the Vespa from England & the Dobermann. If I do it, what will happen?
(joking...! if I go, will be pleased to do it!)

Let me know if you want more info. That's all! If, reading my answers, you find something useful that you could still tell me, do it!
Eg, some "only cretain people" taverna where eating good good food and spend little money, don't exitate to tell me
 sorry again for my english
 cheers, Alex

THe road from Plakias to Rethymno is not that scary we just like a whole night there & normally stay in a lovely venetian hotel but we have driven back late also & it's fine. I haven't heard of the other Restaurant but I tell you won't be disappointed with Avli they serve some traditional food & vey modern cuisine it's a very special place with alot of attention to detail.

Yes Alex I definately have probs with the Quote thing. How do you cancel text string?
Your last message is very strange...  : although you've inserted the "quote" and "/quote" keys, it does not work...

By the way, to edit a messagge (Eg for cancel text), EVEN if you have already posted it (and you want to change it), follow this simple steps:

 1. go to messagge you want to change
 2. click on the "Edit" button (see my attach pic)
 3. choose "Full Edit" or "Quick Edit", it's not that great difference

Then you can also CANCEL the whole unecessary text strings before your messagge.
To do it, simply select the text and press the cancel button on your keyboard!
Note that you can Edit only your messagges (not those ones of the other members...  ) and you can do that only when you're logged on (you must have inserted your user name and password before you can editing).

 That's all!
 bye,
 Alex

The most helpful device for those having problems quoting and editing is the "Preview Post" button next to the "Add Reply" button as it allows you to see what you have created before committing yourself. The edit button that Alex refers to allows you to correct, for example, a typo after you have posted. I think it only allows you to edit rather than delete one of your posts but I could be wrong on this.

yes, but in this way you can also delete the unwanted phrases

For the non-Italian speakers: is the wind a problem in July ? We'd like to go there next year with our four kids and I wouldn't want the wind to spoil it for us.
-
Plakias is well know for being windy.
 See this post. (http://forums.plakias.co.uk/index.php?s=&showtopic=863&view=findpost&p=6634)

We're in Plakias now and it hasn't been bad since 21sep but the locals tell me it's been a bad year for the wind.
-
Thank you John. I do expect it to be windy, I just would not want it to be so windy that we had to stay indoors ! I am sure that on the days where the beach is inaccessible because there is too much sand blowing around, we can find other things to do. Does the wind tend to be less strong if you go inland a bit ?

Hi Lut
I was there from the 12.09 for two weeks and the first few days were very windy but then it died down to a breeze then none at all for the rest of the time except for the odd gust. So your taking pot luck whatever time of year you go.
Yes it does die down a bit as soon as you're north of either of the Gorges.
