Found this news on another forum, which matches with the attached photo (borrowed as well) as evidence.

INSPECTORS MEET 'DIRTY, ROTTEN' BUTCHERS
A three-day inspection of the Varvakeio meat market in central Athens revealed grossly unsanitary conditions, a lack of proper refrigeration, dirty surfaces, flies in meat preparation areas and rodent droppings. Inspectors found that nearly all butchers at the market ignore even basic hygiene regulations. The inspection was ordered by Athens Prefect Yannis Sgouros following a nationwide television show exposing a series of hygiene violations in one butcher's stall.

Inspectors found that nearly all butchers at the market ignore even basic hygiene regulations. Glass windows used to display the meat, inspectors reported that many of the butchers have removed the glass, leaving the meat subject to pollution. Freezers were not kept below 4 degrees Celsius; doors did not close air-tight, allowing flies and rodents to enter the area. Knives and hooks were rusted; cutting boards were old and moldy. Action will be taken to literally clean up the capital’s meat market. (Athens News)

I don't know about the "not to be opened by veggies", actually it makes me glad I've not eaten any meat in Greece (or anywhere else) for quite a few years now.

All I can say is how much I've enjoyed all the meat as served in Medousa Taverna Plakias - and I'm not about to stop eating it now.

I hate to admit this but I'm as close to a carnivor that one can get.

My wife Sue and I must be fellow carnivors, John, as we've found all meat related dishes at Medousa Taverna Plakias simply wonderful year after year!!  Like you, we're definitely confirmed carnivors.

My favourite is the Spicy Pork. My wife, Karen's a veggie but fortunately the vegetarian pizza is probably the best we've had in any reastaurant in Plakias.
