Title: What the boats look like out of the water
Post by: returner on January 25, 2006, 08:58:40 AM
This is a mobile photo taken on Jan 2. These boats are parked up in the car park area and really are impressive.

Good heavens no!
What is impressive to somebody can sometimes be picturesque for someone else.

It is only an impression of a medium sized container (1500 TEU) vessel in a floating drydock. Nowadays larger container vessel are built with a capacity of 8500 TEU and in future ± 10-12000 TEU
(TEU = 20x8.5x8 feet standard container)
The floating dock might be a development for Souda in the future.

Hi Returner,
It was surely not my intention to make an offensive remark. If felt so my sincere apologies.
I like your picture especially the different sharp colours and white cloud formations in the blue sky.

I think I am the one who is sometimes making wrong offensive entries in the posts.
Sometimes far to impulsive, not funny and possibly annoying members of this great forum.
I was re-reading some of my posts and must admit I have to more prudent in the future. Some corrections have been made, but I think it was too late.

Anyone who feels embarrassed and is scared off:
I offer my sincere apologies.
I try to keep this forum alive and like to share opinions with others.

She is 458 meters (509 yards) long and 69 meters (76 yards) wide.
The crew is using bicycles to go the forecastle.
Same as we usually do when going from Oranjezon to Vrouwenpolder.
(no need for ferries: your map must be outdated)

Not the map but memories... We go to "Oranjezon" sometimes when it's not so cloudy for a few days with our camping mobile. Nice place, too! [With a greek taverna nearby it would be perfect!  ]

googled for the ship... http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/sys...ahre-viking.htm (http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/ship/jahre-viking.htm)

and here's my first ship...  impressed?

Are you still building?
Or do you have an  "as built" picture as well?

This "boat" has never seen the sea. It was nothing but a symbolic pseudo-ship for an exhibition and it has gone up in smoke afterwards... One day I'll build me an ark...

Ship ahoi!

Of the 'proper'boats, the one on the left if I am not mistaken belongs to Manolis of TassoManlis Sunset Taverna, which he uses most days to catch fresh fish for the restaurant.
Nearly fainted when I saw the P&O ship (having spent 25 years working for them) as never thought I'd see one of my old ships on this website !!!

Greetings to all

There is no logic in Crete   and thus also no logic on this site.

PS

Question for Pritch:

Do you know the missing link between P&O and this flag?

Hi Pritch

Both these boats are owned by Lefteris from Smerna.  Taso keeps his boats up by his taverna.  And most of the other fishing boats are dotted around the harbour carpark and carpark by Nufaro.

Hopefully they will all be going back in the water soon which is a sign that summer is on the way.

Cheers Ali..trust all well with you guys sorry to hear about what happened..

Leen - you got me there, the only thing I can think of is something to do with the original Royal Charter for the Peninsular post - in truth guessing sir.

Sad day (in a sense), got my pay off from all my P&O shares today, another great British Co sold off from GB PLC.
Mind you paid for the holiday and flights this year.
Going BA from Manchester - cheapest flights around, game on.
Not doing Plak this year trying out a couple of other spots to check them out, heard about this place called Malia - understand its up and coming ???
Yes I'm JOKING
Rgds to all
