Kalypso?
-
I do also think it is Kalypso, but I have only seen it from that angle once and that was 14 years ago so I might be wrong.
-
I also think it's Kalypso, but hasn't it changed it's name? I know it's no longer nudist.

Yes..I think it's called the kalypso Beach hotel, it's around the and on the other side of headland at the far end of the bay, Why the beach bit I don't know...is there any sand there?
we decided to pay a visit after a walk over the headland, (vsiting the tunnels etc)
we got as far as the road above it, where i took the picture, but did't go any further. The road was much too steep and with the thought of the walk back , and we decided not to go down to it

I seem to remeber hearing that Kalypso was built on the site of a WW2 German U-Boat base. Can anybody confirm this?

i really can't see that, for it to be a base there would need docks, warehouses, barracks etc

I know what you are saying but submarines are at their most vunerable when they are on the surface, so the U boat ports had re-inforced concrete covered pens and lots of anti aircraft guns
A base would need storage areas for food and munitions, barracks and hospital facilities for crews and guards. Tool shops for repairs etc
Not forgetting that the germans had all the facilities at Suda bay on the north coast

this is a photo (not mine, but it will give you an idea) of a Uboat pen

and another pic of the inside

My thoughts were also Micro Amoudi but expected to see the umbrellas. Also, the sand seems yellower than I remember it to be at Micro Amoudi.

Both right. It was a couple of years ago in June when there was some kind of dispute over the beaches and all the furniture was removed including Plakias beach! It was good to lie on micro with no umbrellas and only a hand full of people!.
Barny.
