No doubt you will get at least one answer about car hire. You will have plenty of company at the Apollon as I know quite a few regulars (saga louts) are staying there. Look forward to meeting you there.
Just lay back and enjoy yourself you are in for a treat.

There are quite a few places to hire cars from. With your short notice the best is possibly to hire locally from within town. I have used the Local firm Ansos Travel often and they are good - email apap@ret.forthnet.gr
This year we are using Caravell (did last year - equally good and a mite cheaper - we thought).
email info@caravel.gr and/or have a look at [a href=\"http://www.caravel.gr/]http://www.caravel.gr/[/url]
Caravel delivered the car to our doorstep and collected it. Very good indeed.
We are also coming in on 27th for 2 weeks - may see you there. I am one of the Saga Lout brigade but the faithful one who is remainig at Stellla Pension. All the others have deserted me and gone to Appolo.
Wonder what I said
May see you there - you will have a terrific time. Superb driving trips from Plakias.

PS - for Saga Louts do NOT read Malia. We are a very respectable bunch (I'm told)

We we in Plakias earlier in the month. The found the best deal was at Alianthos Car Hire as they allowed a morning to morning hire. This meant there was no rush to get the car back on the final day.

Weather shoould be good - might be the occasional shower at this time of year but hopefully not.
Current temps at Heraklion are 80 (right now as I write) and that is about average. You are only staying a week and it is unlikely to cool off during that 1st week. Sometimes gets a bit cooler in the evenings in our 2nd week.
The long range forcast till next Friday looks good with temps in mid 70's. Might be hotter on the South side. Don't know how hot you like it (The Weather) but the above is always hot enough for us. This will be out 7th visit at exactly this time of year and it doesn't vary much.

When I started coming to Plakias in the 1980s it was mostly backpackers - now the place seems to be overrun with respectable Saga types.
Scary thought - are they perhaps the same people?

Scary thought - are they perhaps the same people?
Well not really. Wouldn't class us as "typical" saga types either - whatever that might be. And no, neither are we louts. We have discovered however that there is a lot of life left in us older dogs (Skeelos) as yet. Indeed for a short while we were the skeelos club (long story). We then called ourselves Stella Pensioners (after Stella Pension) and knowing that sadly this year few of us will be at that location another name developed. Many none-Stella had joined us over the years at Livicon anyway. Many of us are of course eligable for that age bracket, some deny it and others hide it and there are honorary members (Not many though when I think about it).

As 2 of the 8 founder members of the Skeelos Group who has now grown into the Saga Louts, which has now got a membership of 30.
We are now accepting applications for The Growing Old Disgracefully Group.
Hopefully, we can bring all the members together at the Meltemi Club this week!!!!!!

Just curious - any other old backpackers/island hoppers out there? For instance, anyone ever stayed at the old Plakias youth hostel, opposite where they built the new church on the way into the village? (by "new" I mean it was built in 1991-2)
I know one guy I met there in 1991 still comes back every year though his hostelling days are behind him. Comes to us all in the end.
