Title: The Balcony at the Ostraco
Post by: harribobs on September 06, 2005, 10:54:13 AM
sadly it doesn't look like we'll be getting back to Plakias this year    so I'm left with my memories of May ( and prior years)

one of our favourite things is a last drink on the balcony at the Ostraco, overlooking the bay, watching people walking past and generally chilling out, there's only one other place where a Mythos tastes so good

What a beautiful picture from the upstairs balcony at Ostraco - brought back so many memories.  As you say, it is usually that last drink before going `home`, although I am not sure exactly where home is sometimes!!  I know that more and more of me remains at Plakias each time I visit.   Sorry to hear you cannot make another trip this year, but just imagine - my last visit was Oct 04!!  Thanks again for posting the photo.  I know I will not be the only one to be sighing ........

Nice photo from Ostraco. We never went there, preferring our apartment balcony for drinks, but the view of the entrance to Mousses taverna, which is clearly visible in your photo, did bring back mouth-watering memories.

We did not hear anything after long chat and (too) many rakis and/or metaxa's? with our hosts(i.e.: friends). Discussing our return in 2006 and quite depressed that we had to leave the next afternoon.

our last night involved a lot of wine and raki as well! but generally the place was pretty quiet in May apart from when Greece won the Eurovision song contest

but the first night me and our neighbours got a little giddy after a few rakis at the medousa ( and poor Mike was in the next room)

the balcony is definately the place to be after dinner... excellent cocktails, friendly staff & music videos (which become hillarious after you realise they play the same ones every night!)

Lovely story.

Margherita and I met in a boozer in Welwyn Garden City. Not quite the same is it

Still it was a magical moment for me (cue violins and pass the bucket)

No, no.  This was a genuine question!

I was hoping you might say: "the beach bar".  It serves draught Mythos, ice-cold.  Lovely!

Νουψση

Right,

There seem to be various words for 'I think', i.e. σκέπτομαι (skeptome), συλλογίζομαι (siloyeezome), διανοούμαι (thiano-oume) [in each case, pronounce the e at the end]. Νομίζω (Nomeezo) doesn't seem to appear under 'think' in the English section, but if I look up Νομίζω in the Greek section it does mean 'I think'. Maybe is ίσως.

So 'I think maybe' could be 'Νομίζω ίσως'. (Nomeezo eesos), e.g. 'Νομίζω ίσως να θέλεις μια μπίρα'

Noopsy, to type accents use the key that gives you a semi-colon when typing English and press this before the letter that you want accented (when you press the semi-colon key nothing will appear to happen - the cursor doesn't move).

Very possibly! Mind you, we don't go there often - a litre of wine + complimentary rakis with our meal is usually enough for us.  I hate admitting it but we're most likely to be in bed by 11pm  .

My feelings exactly. I reckon a couple of glasses of wine (or G&Ts) on the balcony beforehand plus half a litre of wine with the meal plus any raki adds up to about 10 units of alcohol per day (a unit being 10ml of pure ethanol) which is about 3 times the recommended maximum. And I certainly wouldn't want the next day to be marred by a headache.

Mike,

Have you got the keyboard set up as Greek so that when you press a letter key it types a Greek instead of an English one? You should then be able to press Alt+Shift to flip-flop between the two languages

Like a lot of people on here, Gary and I used to be in bed by 11, however, we then met Steve and Lin when we then went on one of the forum meals arranged by Compage. We have become good friends and arrange our stay in Plakias around each other. You will now find us all ( sometimes Ploppy and Marge) sitting outside Ostraco on most nights and tend not leave until Stelio closes the bar. I think it fair to say Ostraco is responsible for one or two headaches
