I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by the beach at Plakias, I don't spend a lot of time in the sea, but i've always found it easy to get in and out, without any major problems

Hallo Harribobs,
as I read in your contribution in the FAQ/ beaches area of the site you like shinaria beach too.
["Shinaria is one of our favourite beaches, It's a decent walk to get there (past Damnoni, to Amoudi and over the headland there)
The beach is mixed textile and nudist, but probably depends on the time of year. There a taverna right by the beach, The Lybian Star and it is also the home of a diving school
]
Do you maybe know at which days the diving school operates there and which may be the better days for those who like it a little bit less troubled and and closer to nature?
"Is it good for nude [sun-] bathing on Sundays?"
We were there 2 and 4 years ago and the situation was as described in my contribution in the same part of the forum.
Thank you very much
shinaria

Hi Shinaria
we were visited the beach about three times this May and they were there everytime
but to be honest i don't think they are a problem at all, they keep to the right hand side ( as you look out to sea) and the sunbathers tend to keep to the left
on our first day we walked over from plakias to have lunch at the star, which was very nice i must add, and after a beer and a few rakis decided not to spend the day on the beach but to walk over to lefkogia
the raki induced energy last until we were three quarters of the way up that hill!
-
i have just remembered something about that walk up the hill,
there's a small farm on the right which usually has two barrel dogs barking their heads off at anyone or thing that wanders by, they seem to have started doing something rather horrible ( to me anyway)
they are adorning their fence with goat's heads very unpleasant
i won't post a picture as i doubt if many would want to see it, but if you go to this link- not a pleasant one (http://harribobs.smugmug.com/photos/26663711-S.jpg) there is a picture

What a SUPER picture of the "far end"! It really sums up the spirit of the place. (You're not a professional photographer, are you?)

We are off to Plakias soon for our anual September visit and threatening to stretch our legs a bit more. We have walked to Mikro Amoudi most years and our first question is, how easy is the climb over the headland from Amoudi to Shinaria and second: has anyone driven along the coast to Agia Paraskevi and found Ligres beaches?
Please someone tell us it's not really worth it and we can just have our usual weeks chill at the 'far end' and the driving licence can stay at home!!!!
Thanks
Mike

hi Mike..welcome to the forum
well i can answer your first question, the walk over to shinaria is superb and well worth it,
the beach is great, not always a nudist beach though, easy access to the sea (which you can't say about amoudi|) and you've got a good taverna for a mythos or lunch
to get there over the headland you NEED good boots, there are sections of rocks that are upward pointing sharp nasty buggers, you're walking close to the edge and you have got to keep your wits about you.
if you are an experienced and careful walker you shouldn't have a problem, but anyway take your time, look for the cairnes, and don't take any chances. if the path suddenly looks dangerous...back up and start again
hopefully John R will see this and add his advice as well
have a great time and come back and tell us about it

I don't think we've actually got that far along - I think we stopped at Amoudi and once walked up and over a bit (inlandish) on the track after crossing the small stream at Amoudi. We are not actually beach people so don't seek beaches unless we fall over them. However that Taverna sounds good - might have a go this October.
Good description and map at :-

Captain Barefoot descibes Ligres here

Our experience is that it is a spectacular drive but with a moderate sea running you would not want to swim there because of the undertow (and if you did get into trouble there is unlikely to be anyone else near enough to help!). If you are after a scenic drive by all means go there but if the beach is your main interest then stick to Plakias!

Allan
