One of my pet hates is the cost of UK airport parking. I have just paid £6.30 per day (£94.50 for 15 days, Gatwick). In 1987 I paid £1.50 per day and parking costs have gone up much faster than package deal costs and inflation generally.
Does anyone have any experience of hiring a car at home, handing it over at the airport and doing the reverse for the return journey? Is it comparable with airport parking costs?

Get a Taxi Quote, mines about £60 return to Gatwick, always found this to be the best bet, other than getting your partners son to volunteer to do the return journey for a pack of cigarettes, works out about £20 at Plakias prices. Thankyou Paul!!

For Gatwick, I was told that Maple Manor are very good - a Google search for "Maple Manor" + Gatwick will find lots of links.

We are lucky in that Gatwick is doable in less than 90 mins by train for us, about a tenner each.
Heathrow is a one pound 30 min bus ride away but unfortunately we very rarely fly from there

There are obviously some advantages about living "up North" when near to provincial airports.
We are 45 minutes quiet country drive from Newcastle Airport and we have a mutual standing order with our immediate neighbour for giving each other lifts to/from airport - any time, any day, no questions asked and no counting who owes what. That certainly enhances any holiday knowing that the domestic transfers are always looked after so easily.

I sometimes use a company that picks people up by minibus and takes them to the airport. Cheaper than a taxi, but obviously you share the minibus and sometimes have to go round picking up others or dropping them off. There seem to be various companies that do this to Manchester airport. I don't about Gatwick. I use this for early morning flights. For night flights it's possible to use the train. Another suggestion is that you can get cheap deals with some hotels if you stay there one night and that can often be cheaper than paying for parking by itself.

Price quoted for Maple Manor on the internet was £102.75 vs. £94.50 for Courtlands. I'm 80 odd miles from Gatwick so a taxi is very expensive. Train is an option depending on flight times. Flights usually too early to get a lift from a friend. Still hoping someone may have experience of the "hire car" option.
