Hi guys we are new to this board as we usually go to zante for our hols but this year we are coming to Crete. We are looking for the best place to stay and were given plakias from the zanteweb.gr site of Alykes(where we regularly go)
So if you can give us any help as to where to stay in Plakias we would be gratefull. We are looking for a smallish b&b type hotl in easy walking to the main night life and near the beach. Hope for a few replies soon regards taffndawn & madmegandog

Welcome to Plakias!! This is a super place for a typical Cretan holiday, but forget night life as you may know it. Most of it surrounds the bars and tavernas (which are plentiful). There are many direct flight from London Gatwick, Luton and Stansted direct to Heraklion. Direct flight are also available from Gatwick to Chania. Both airports are some way from Plakias, however. We now arrange independant holidays and take car hire from the airport (Heraklion). The only package holidays that I know of from GB are First Choice and Olympic. They would supply tranfers I should think. There is lots of info on this site as to places to stay etc. Suggest you browse well.
Hope this is of some help.

Hi Yvonne thanks for the info We arent looking for a rave night out just a bit of night life( both over the 40 mark(just), but dawn now going backwards!!!)
We intend to travel as independants as we do to Zante, so car hire from Heraklion is the favourite way. Is it easy to find places in Plakias around the beginning of June or is it better to book in advance?(B&B favourite)
We like to arrive at the airports pick up the car and turn right and see where we end up after an hoursish driving. I have seen other posting concerning the mountain route to Plakias any probs in the dark??
Well thanks again Yvonne, off to look for the flights now . I will be usuing this great site daily until we go and on return so hope to chat again.
Regards Taff, Dawn &madMeg the dog!!

As long as you are used to driving in places like Crete then no problem driving from Heraklion to Plakias in the dark. You may not observe the terrific gorge through which you will travel but perhaps that might be a blessing
The route is all on good roads (by Crete standards)
