Title: Greek Financial Crisis
Post by: sylvia & steve on June 30, 2015, 09:28:30 PM
Hi anyone in Plakias at the moment - can you advise situation regarding money:
Are any of the cash machines working?
Are the shops accepting payment by credit/debit cards or is it strictly cash only?
We are arriving on Friday night and need to plan our finances!

Many thanks

Sylvia

I would recommend that you take plenty of cash with you. At present you can't rely on getting any money out of the ATM's and there is a chance that cards might not be accepted at short notice.

Have a great time and please spend your cash with the locals. If there is a time that they need visitors it certainly is now!

I read that bars will be shut except on Wednesdays but only to allow pensioners to withdraw stock.

Whoops perhaps bars should read banks :))

Well John R.....you realise you may just have scared the life out of dozens of loyal Plakias lovers...so pleased that you amended 'bars' to 'banks'. There really would be a crisis if the bars were closed ! There's be (gentle) riots !

Just so long as tavernas are open to enable (us) pensioners to "withdraw from stock".   :D
