After finishing my meal at the Gorgona the other night I asked for the bill. The owner said something to me in Greek. All I could make out was the word "rachi". I asked him if he meant "raki" to which he replied, "Μπραβο!". This was odd as the "ch" sound does not exist in the Greek language. So, to all you linguists out there: is "rachi" the Cretan dialect for "raki"?

Yes,Pavlos at Kyma refers to it as Rachi too.

The Cretan pronunciation of 'ki' is 'chi'. Once you grasp that the Cretan dialect is a little bit easier to understand (but not much!).

at first it occurred to me that the women said rachi and the men raki but then no... not so... they say both ... so both is correct :D
