Title: THE WIND IN PLAKIAS
Post by: GIL on August 15, 2003, 01:51:09 PM
Hallo, we are planning our holiday in Plakias, and we would like to know if it is thrue that it is most of the time windy in Plakias.
We visited Plakias last year for a afternoon, in june, and there was a lot of wind and friends tell us the same.

Sure it can be really windy but our experience is that the Meltemi dies away from the middle of August.  Late August and early September are usually much calmer.  Don't despair - if it is windy in the South it is oftem calmer in the North so you can always take a day trip to Rhythimnon if you get desperate!

Regards,

Allan

In my experience it can vary from a light and very refreshing breeze to very strong winds but they do not usually last for more than a few days . I have been to Plakias 8 times - nith visit next week - always in mid to late august and I would say I have never had more than 4 at most days of heavy winds and usually less . When it is wiondy people tend to shelter by the rocks at Damnoni . The wind though means that you can sunbathe in much mroe comfort than in this country as there is no humidity

You can see from my earlier note that the winds have been very strong off shore, we had them for 2 days but now its a very refreshing off-shore breeze.
Have slept outside since we got here along with kids, so don't worry about it. If th wind blows it just means its less hot.........
