Hi,
my wife and I are returning to Plakias in June, after a gap of 12 years. As much as I would love it to be the same as we left it, I know 12 years is a long time and a lot has happened in the economies of Europe. How are prices there now? meals, drinks, sunbeds etc,
Rob

We went back last year for the first time in about 25 years and wondered why we had taken so long to go back! No, its not as cheap as it used to be and, certainly, there had been quite a bit of development in 25 years, and the transfers from Heraklion airport were so horrendously expensive we hired a car instead but it was brilliant! Sunbeds were 5 euros a pop, beach is great, Mikro Amoudi is a bit packed but lovely, Souda is a bit stoney but lovely. Didn't feel any of the restaurants we visited were particularly expensive and the local hooch wasn't bad. Old hippy vibe still strong. Far end of beach still naturist. Going back this year...............what more do you need to know!

Thanks for that, draper10.
Just one thing more, I would like to take Euros and sterling. Any problem changing pounds to Euros?
Two weeks to go..... :)
Rob.

No problems changing Sterling. We usually use a car rental place on the beach road run by a Steve Martin lookalike.
Hotels and Anso travel also do currency exchange.

We fly out on June 13th! Took loads of small denomination euros last year after dire warnings about shops not taken large denomination notes or cards. Didn't have a problem at all. Cards happily accepted, no sign of the problems people had had elsewhere. Taking euros and post office credit card (V.cheap to use in europe - no commision etc). Might be a bit late for you to get one now, but worth thinking about for the future.

Eating out is still good value with plenty of choice for price and still get all the "on the house" freebies. Prices in the mini markets are up a bit but the bread is delicious as is the fruit.
