just wondered what nationalities are there and numbers, what activities/organisations?

There seem to be different groups of "ex pats". If you are staying for some time I'm sure you will meet a few people.  The library on the road beyond the youth hostel is a good place to start. They run regular Sunday nibbles, and have other activities going on as well.
