Thanks so much for that info. We said we would not fly from Manchester again but the flights are now at good times and this year we had such superb flights with Easyjet. So Thanks to you I have booked immediately for next September. The cost is about half of what I thought I would have to pay for Newcastle or Glasgow (my preferred options until now). Indeed much less than we paid this year. Also I have faith that easyjet will survive the financial crunch whereas some of my other options may have been dubious in that respect.

It has cost me a total of £334 for the two of us and that includes about £30 for speedy boarding.

For other people's info :-

I have done a lot of internal and short European flights with Easyjet and don't consider speedy boarding to be worthwhile. However it is very much worthwhile on the Manchester / Heraklion flights. At Manchester there is a special speedy checkin desk as well as 1st on plane and at Heraklion the speedy boarders (about 20 of us) got the first tarmac bus to ourselves and about 10 minutes alone in the plane to choose the best seats. Also the easyjet checkin at Manchester is at the very quiet terminal 3 and at Heraklion it is at the very end of the building with exclusive luggage X ray machines dedicated to easyjet. This made things very efficient and speedy at Heraklion - altogether a more pleasant experience

I was just about to ask if you knew when the Gatwick flights went on sale.

Having just got the money back from my credit card company after the xl affair, I've got a bit of spare cash to invest in doing the same thing all over again!

I think that Manchester flight is a new one. It looks as if it finishes on 29 September so sadly no good to me

easyjet John, previously i didn't think easyjet flights weren't worth the hassle, cheap night flights, expensive returns    but these flight times aren't bad at all!

we were considering a trip to Turkey ( gallipoli) but i've put that on the backburner for later in the year now

Still no sign of the Gatwick-Heraklion easyJet flights going on sale. Anybody got any idea when they might or if they've scrapped the route?

Was booking while you were posting!

Out on Thursday 3rd, back Saturday 19th - £131 including the credit card booking fee.

Just have to hope the pound isn't worth a fifth of a Euro by then...

Just booked our EJ flights - £306 for both. We normally try to avoid going from Gatwick but it's a Sunday day flight so traffic should be ok. Plus, it saved us £200 compared with the Tuesday night flight from Stansted.

Ah, for the days when we will be able to book out of school holiday times!  Manchester/Heraklion with EasyJet for May half-term.... around £1000 for 3 of us!  Fortunately I managed to book a one week package with Olympic to Kosta Chrysoula for less than the EasyJet flight, so we can look forward to our second holiday to Plakias.  I gather the rooms in KC are rather small for three people - but all the more reason to spend all our time at the far end.

I think you would have found that had you booked for that flight within hours of the  bookings opening it might have been much cheaper. The flight charges go up as the plane fills up rather than by a significant calendar date. Admittedly it would have filled up much quicker for the school holiday period than a none school holiday period. However you have done well to get an all in package cheaper than the flights only. Indeed on that basis you could almost justify spending extra on some additional accommodation if you felt you needed it.

Hi all

I know in the summer travelling via Athens is not ideal but having travelled with Agean Airlines from Stansted over Christmas I would consider them in the summer, prices great & a first class service on all flights. Food good & drinks soft & beer & wine included in price. Baggage checked in at stansted & collected at final destination Chania or Heraklion so leaves time for a first Ouzo at Athens with no hassle!
