Title: New harbour
Post by: Daniel on July 25, 2008, 01:48:56 PM
It was last September when we last saw the building work on the new harbour.

Have any of those who have visited Plakias this year a progress report/pictures on the work to date?

We are to visit again at the end of September for 2 weeks (but taking in the tourist festival) so maybe it will be completed and in use by then?

OK all you doubters. I recall many posts which poked fun at the progress and now we are so close. The contract called for a time frame of three years starting in Oct. 2006- Well, it is Oct. 2009 and they are finishing up with the asphalt. What is there now is the extent of their contract and I think they have done a great job- How about a round of applause.

Fair enough. We saw some boats using it in September and it did look quite good. I noticed more boat trips this year which, I guess, is a good thing for the locals.

Here are some photos that I took last week.  Quite a lot of progress was made during the week I was there.

That is a lot of work since we were there 2 weeks ago or so. It is going to look quite attractive and will indeed be an asset.

Santa

Step 1 - pick a suitable (free) online album site (Flickr, Worldisround, Picasa, etc.).  Note that Flickr works slightly differently - I will annotate later.

Step 2 - using the help on the album site, upload as few or many pictures as you like.

Step 3 - (Assuming you have selected the one{s} to post here) Right-click your mouse on the picture and select "Copy image location" (or whatever variant your browser uses), then in your Plakias post, paste that information at the point where the picture should be.  Place BBcode tags around the image location .... like this:
Code: [Select]
Text, blah blah blah

[img]http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3098/3335478170_b7e26e81d9.jpg[/img]
more text,blah blah blah
Which then gets presented like this:

 Text, blah blah blah

more text,blah blah blah

**************
Flickr - You will have to work a bit harder with Flickr:
From the selected picture, select the "More sizes" option, above it.
Select the size you want (Thumbnail; Small; Medium; Large; Full Size).
Below the chosen size-image, there is an option:
"To link to this photo on other websites you can either:
1. Copy and paste this HTML into your webpage:
2. Grab the photo's URL:"
 - Use "2.", select and copy the URL directly.

This replaces the instruction {Right-click your mouse on the picture and select "Copy image location"} in Step 3, above.

I uploaded my photos direct from my pc by using the upload and browse buttons on the bottom right of the screen.

But I think that if you do it this way, the pictures come out small (don't know why).

Do you (or anyone!) know where exactly I should look to check them?

Noopsy, before looking at browser settings, have you tried right mouse click on the thumbnail and then selecting 'Open link in new tab' or some of the other Open or Copy Link options.

Success!  I right-clicked my mouse on the thumbnail, then clicked on Open Link in New Window, and hey-presto: a nice big picture! Thank you Graham and Karen.

Having said that, I just tried right-clicking etc. on harribobs' Prague pictures (not that I needed to as they were quite big anyway) but the Open Link in New Window option was greyed out.    Now I am confused.

there are two different ways you can place a photo on the forum

have a look at this thread, particularly my first post) and it explains it

how to post a photo on the forum (http://forums.plakias.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=825)

Hello Chris,

where there any "new trips" going out from the new harbour? Rumours said that Plakias may be part of the Chora Sfakion - Loutro - Paleochora - Route soon ...
Would the new harbour be suitable for ships sized like the Daskalogiannis? We'll be there in July.

Ideally this would be perfect for the ferry routes but is it going to be for commercial or domestic (pleasure cruises etc.) use? Mixture perhaps?
Logically I'd keep the pleasure cruises (Preveli etc) where they are and use this one for the fishermen and the ferry (if that happens).

I like the idea of the ferry being added to Plakias, it'll save driving all the way to Chora S., to get to Loutro etc.

It's looking good though and just about the right distance outside of the town.
Nice pic as always Chris, Thx!

hmmmm  well i can't see the Daskalogiannis getting in there, i couldn't see a place for a ramp. i saw something about a new ( well new to Crete) ferry being bought but i doubt that getting to Plakias, but you never know!!

that's what's happening, commercially it would make no sense to run them from the new harbour, you can see a few of the fishing boats tied up at the new harbour
