We are off to Plakias next week, and we are wondering if there are many mosquitos.

Can anyone help ?
Thanks
Dave

Mysteriously disappeared over the last few years, I've had no problems with them at all.

I think there's a thread on here somewhere talking about where they've gone!!

A few years ago we had a similar question and some useful answers ...

Bite them back!

Sorry, I had other experiences during our stay this year. I was bitten by many mosquitoes. Maybe it depended on the location of our apartment.
There were many olive trees, bushes and flowers. Unfortunately I am allergic and therefore I had enough problems. I would recommend something
against the mosquitoes.

I'm sure the location of the apartment could make a difference, but I would agree with George; they were an annoyance in the evenings 4 or 5 years ago but the last two years we've not had a problem - if I remember correctly, we sometimes use anti-mozzi lotion but it's probably not necessary.

Hi, We were there just over a week ago and we had one mozzie in the room.  Our fault really as we had left a balcony door open with a light on in the room.  Other than that we never saw another one.  As others have said it probably depends upon where your accommodation is and the proximity of standing water, etc.  We were never bothered when out on the town in the evenings.  However it's always best to be prepared with a mozzie plug-in device and some repellant just in case.

I was told years ago to drink tonic water as they dont like the quinine it contains , don't know if it works but its a good excuse to  drink G and T .

I should try it because all mosquitoes are looking for me.
Shall I begin in the morning or a bit later with this drink?

I have always believed it was yeast extract (Marmite) and that it was the B vitamins the mosquitoes didn't like.

I think I'll stick to the G & T idea, it seems to work for me!!

One thing they DO like is perfume girls... and aftershave boys, so don't use heavily scented ones

Thanks for the ideas/suggestions everyone.....

I think I should be safe if I don't wear aftershave, eat some marmite, and have a few G&T's !!!!! lol

I think the weather is probably a big factor - you try flying about and biting people when you weigh about a miligram and THAT wind gets going...

I do not know whether I can buy marmite in our town. I do not drink beer and I believe marmite is an ingredient of beer.
Sometimes I like Gin and Tonic as an apperitif.
I have many problems with the allergic reaction of my skin when I was bitten by mosquitoes. Today we are 4 weeks back from Plakias
and I still have problems with my skin. The doctor said it is an inflammation and I got a special ointment. This is a problem of myself and not everybody
is allergic againt mosquitoes. During the last years I visited many doctors in Greece and also Spain. They helped for the moment but not for ever.
We have a plug-in against the mosquitoes but they find me everywhere.
Due to these reasons I do not go abroad without anything against mosquitoes.

The link between Beer and Marmite is yeast as they both contain it .i feel sorry for you with your problems with the mozzies , perhaps you could go sking next year you would be safe up in the Alps .

I thank you very much for your sympathy but I do not like skiing. I love the summer, the sun, the beaches, the sea and so on.
