Title: October Hols

Hello.

Please can those of you who have experience of Plakias in October give us some idea of how things are there.
We usually visit in May half-term hols and therefore had two weeks of unsettled wet weather last time. So we hope that in Oct half -term ie last week in the month, the sea will be warmer, the wind gently breezing and the sun comfortably warm - aah.
Any comments, plus is it quiter than May or similar.

Oh- and is the dive shop open that late in the season??

Hello Jane,

I've only been in May but one of the autumn regulars is sure to tell you that the end of the season is one of the busiest times in Plakias- atypically so for Greece IMHO. Much busier than May. You were unlucky with the weather in May as it is generally pretty good. My experience of many places in Greece is that the first weeks of the season and the last are about the same in terms of reliability of weather and temperature. The main difference is that the sea is warmer and the days shorter in the autumn.

That unsettled May last year was very unusual. We are always there late Sept to early October and yes Plakias is now very busy at that time. Didn't used to be but us Saga Louts seem to have made everybody realise just how good things are at that time of year. However towards the last week in October the weather could be unreliable and might indeed be very similar to the unsettled bit last May. It could however be fine, warm and sunny - it is an uncertain time. Most places should be open but for that final week some things will be slowing off a bit.
